So.... Is Brian Eno a genius... Or a quirky guy who likes being weird..
I think there are a lot of performers out there who firmly believe that just being "out there" is enough... That being as such is an artistic statement in and of it self...

I personally believe that Brian Eno needs the confines, structure, if you will, of an already established genre of music in order to shine brightly...

Sometimes it takes more talent to create within a so called structure than to just go out and do what ever floats your boat...

I feel that way about a lot of performance artists...

What say you...

1. Spider and I was the first time I heard Brian Eno
Some of his music I like, some I don't. I just recently came across his "Put a straw under baby" which I like.

My son who is into punk rock (I think he has all the CDs made) was very impressed that I even knew of Eno, let alone liked his work!

:)

2. That's cool....
there is a track on an Early Roxy Music album, the Bogus Man, that really let's Eno have at it...

7. Some of the people on that album are from Rocy Music and
King Crimson....

I like some of his stuff...

One of his songs came up on my Pandora Radio Station and it was clever, quirky, like a Talking Heads song....

But I have heard a lot of his stuff that was, well, lacking discipline..

4. He's Brilliant! He invented the genre of Ambient music
with his groundbreaking Album Music For Airports. He created a minimalist style that is considered the most influential ambient album of all time. I love that piece, along with Discreet Music, Apollo, Another Green World, Thursday Afternoon, Ambient 4 On Land, his work with Harold Budd, and many others. My iPod is full of Eno as he is a big inspiration to me.

I've also seen all of Album Music For Airports. performed live acoustically by Bang On A Can All Stars. I highly recommend that too.

6. His first three albums I liked very much
The stuff that followed, not so much.

And I never really forgave him for steering the Talking Heads into their dreadful World Music phase.
