The sound on my PC won't come on. MP3's won't play.
This is probably something really simple, but I can't hear anything on my PC. None of the volume options are on mute and the speakers are turned on and plugged in. What else should I check? I don't remember doing anything to it. It was working yesterday.

Also, whenever I try to play an MP3 in iTunes, it just won't start at all. The seconds don't count down or anything. YouTube videos will play for a second and then freeze. The visual view of the internet and everything else on my computer seems normal, it's just the sound is completely FUBAR. I wonder what the trouble is.

I am way too broke to have it professionally looked at. Does anybody know where I can find information about this? Are there any FAQ's anywhere? Do you think my ISP might be able to help?

1. can you hear sounds in the control Panel?
find your sound icon in the control panel and see if you can hear any of them.

Reinstall the drivers.

I can't hear sounds. I was trying to play Snood that makes sound. It's not online and it doesn't make noise.

I went to Sounds and Audio Devices Properties from the Control Panel, and I click on the little sound icons under Program Events and nothing happens. I don't know if anything is supposed to, though.

Can you point me to somewhere that tells me how to reinstall the drivers?

Thanks again.

3. there's a couple ways..
go to the control panel, then system, then hardware, then device manager.

Find the sound section and your drivers. There should be a troubleshooting button you can select and see what that says.

Or go to the manufacturer's website and try their support page. They will have a link for drivers to install.

good luck

6. This is really complicated
and it doesn't give me any hope that it's going to address the reason why the MP3's and YouTube videos won't even start

It says all of the devices work properly anyway. Sorry to trouble you. Thanks.

that's strange. that doesn't sound like a simple driver issue, because the driver wouldn't affect the seconds ticking off on itunes - i dont think.

i'd run a system restore to a day ago.

let me know if that helps. feel free to pm me. i used to do a lot of tech work - before my bloodpressure got too bad.

9. Go to Start, click on Help and Support and you should see system
restore. Click on it and it will let you pick a spot to restore to. :hi:

8. Try this one thing:
Sometimes this happens on my laptop.
I have to shut it down and restart it. Then it works.
Don't know why.
Hell, it's worth a try. Sorry if this seems oversimplistic.

10. HA HA HA!
It works. You're a genius. I used to know a few things about computers myself, but it's been a while so I've let it go.

Thank you all so much. I'm glad I didn't start installing drivers or doing system restore or something.

I posted this in the Computer Help & Support forum, but it didn't get a reaction. So, I thought of the Lounge, which has been good to me in the past. Thanks again.

13. just fyi driver install or system restore wouldn't have negatively affected
anything.

they are pretty innocuous steps.
