It's official! Genesis (Rutherford/Banks/Collins) to reunite in 2007!
Officially announced this morning/afternoon at a press conference in London. The Rutherford/Banks/Collins trio will be reuniting for a European summer tour in 2007.

If you're here to whine about about how everything they did after "Lamb" sucks, piss off. :)

1. Hey...Trick Of The Tail was great
and they recaptured some of their former progressive glory on the closing track on We Can't Dance, "Fading Lights". Great keyboard work by Tony Banks on that tune, including a nice long solo. Driving The Last Spike was an interesting longer-form song as well...I never liked the fact they released the last few minutes as a single though, it loses its meaning as a story of men laboring under hard and deadly conditions.

Too bad they can't rope Hackett and Gabriel back in... ;)

3. Gabriel hasn't ruled out future participation...
I'm just hoping they follow up on the broad setlist Rutherford and Banks used on the "Calling All Stations" tour. Very nice cross-section of Genesis history.

14. Here's what I'd like to see: Gabriel and Collins switching vocals.
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 10:34 AM by Commie Pinko Dirtbag
Collins sings all Gabriel songs like "I know what I like," "Broadway Melody of 1974," "Dancing With The Moonlit Knight" etc.

Gabriel sings all Collins songs like "Abacab," "Land of Confusion," and...

"Mama."

Cool, but any word on when/if they will be visitiing the US? I love the band but a trans-Atlantic flight is a wee bit much. lol

4. Abacab was good record
I just watched an old "Greatest Albums" show on VH1 and they focused on Phil Collins' first solo album (I think it was his first). Good show.

10. I won't say that all the post-Lamb stuff sucks, but...
I've already seen that line-up of Genesis live.

I'm not sure I'm willing to fork over wads of cash without Hackett and Gabriel. (They left the band before I was born, so I never had a chance to see them.)

13. Without Peter Gabriel, it's not Genesis...
it's some craptacular band led by PHIL COLLINS, for God's sake ... I mean, Phil Collins? Seriously? Look, I'm fine with him bewhind a drumkit, where he's not visible, but after Gabriel left, Genesis was an entirely different band, one whose suckitude cannot be measured through the most modern scientific analysis.

16. Aw, the Phil period isn't THAT bad
though "Invisible Touch" was far too poppy. They redeemed themselves on We Can't Dance IMHO...Fading Lights, Dreaming While You Sleep (haunting!), Driving The Last Spike...and "Jesus He Knows Me" is one of the best smackdowns of the Religious Right EVER! :D

Sure, there's nothing as brilliant as Dancing With The Moonlit Knight and Firth of Fifth (what a piano intro!), but they still made some good music after Gabriel left.

And Phil Collins is still one HELL of a drummer.

15. That's a show I'd stand in line and pay good money for if.....
it's a retrospective show that doesn't relegate anything pre-Duke to medley status.

42. The original version of "Abacab" (the album) is far superior to the released version.
If I recall the story correctly, they gave the press cassettes of the more or less finished album, but it ended up getting cut down. Some of the cut material made to the EP that was on the fourth side of "Three Sides Live," and some was on one of the Archive sets.

26. A "reunion" is with Gabriel and Hackett
Yes, I enjoy post-Gabriel Genesis-- some of it. "Seconds Out" is a wonderful live album (from the '70s). Bottom line: Genesis had me up to and including "Duke." (I just got the remastered CD last year!) But I saw the trio twice in the '80s. I won't be seeing them again without Peter and Steve. Just one man's opinion...

29. I have to say that I'm torn...
... the merest possibility of being able to see Supper's Ready performed live again actually has the hairs on the back of my neck on end... but... but.... but....

It really DOES need Gabriel and Hackett involved to make it all fit together - to be genuinely "Genesis" if you ask me...

39. I will probably get beaten for this but
I think Genesis was their best album. But honestly its all good. They are not who they were when Peter Gabriel was there, but we have Peter Gabriel's great stuff for solo work for that.

And they had better come to the states! Dammit. Cause I said so. And I haven't seen them since their tour for We Can't Dance. I miss them. Phil is such a showman and fun to see in concert.

Hell, I loved all of them. "We Can't Dance" was a great one, it had some good extended songs.

I just love the atmosphere of Lamb.

But I don't think it is their best work.

For a cool atmosphere I think Seconds Out is amazing!

If they come to the states we need to go!
