3. My husband once told me that I was the smartest woman he'd ever met.
So either he actually respects my intellect; or he's just an effective flatterer. :P

5. I'll tell you two.
One was yesterday. I was in DC for an interview, and walking down a busy city street downtown. A man I passed said, "You're lookin' good, baby, very sharp." Being obese I'm sensitive to my looks, and the suit I was wearing is quite the pimpin' outfit. :)

The other is that I'm frequently told that I have a great smile; that when I smile, my face brightens the room.*

Superficial, perhaps. I've been paid compliments due to my perpetual good attitude, my need to give, my work with cats, and my intellect. But somehow these make me feel best.

* i'm so happy with this compliment that i'll show it to you:

7. Our young friend Crystal invited us to her 16th birthday party
We're old fogeys at 41 and 46. She still wants to be friends with us.

It's probably one of the bigger compliments I have ever received.

12. I loved my big ol' pregnant bellies
I actually missed them. Go figger. Must've been the hormones.

And...if I recall correctly...when I was that pregnant, I cried through Father of the Bride...Kleenex commercials...McDonalds commercials...Robin Williams standup routines...

I could've single-handedly ended any drought in existence.

:eyes:

Still -- I wouldn't trade a minute of it.

10. Aside from compliments that Mrs. XNASA has tossed my way...
Since those are biased, or at least some are and I'd really rather keep my family out of my discussions on-line anyway......

But I'd say the time when I managed a department of 5 at JSC. I was pushing an issue on their behalf. They made it a point to support me when they were being pressured not to. We stuck together and it really meant a lot to me.

13. Okay, this will sound stupid - it always does
But it meant more to me than just about any other compliment I've gotten.

My best friend has been a farmer all his life, from a farming family. I was helping him bring in the hay one year and my job was to stack it on the giant hay truck. Which I did in such a way that we got a huge load on there and so tight and well stacked that you didn't even need to rope it.

My friend walked up as we were finishing. Mind you, this is a New England man, a man of few words and spare compliments. He looked up at the load, nodded and said, "You've stacked hay before."

Made my day. :)

19. It wasn't spoken
It was 1998 and I was coming to the end of my first year as sports editor of the local paper. The high school here had had a real good cross country team for years (still do), but they'd never gotten much coverage because cross country isn't a "glamour" sport. I followed 'em to every league meet, the league championships, sectionals and state, and a lotta times they were the lead story.

After the season they invited me to their awards banquet. All the teams do that, and you get so you think it's so they can get the award winners in the paper. I couldn't go anyway because I had something else to cover — a wrestling meet, I think.

Couple days later I came back to the newsroom from lunch and there was a package for me. I opened it, and inside there was a cross country team jacket with my name and "Sports Editor" embroidered on it, with "Thanks from Baler Cross Country."

Good thing I didn't go to the banquet. I wouldn't have wanted all those people to see me cry.

27. I used to have very long hair
One time at a mall I passed a man with Down's Syndrome. After I'd passed, I heard him say to his facilitator "that girl had really nice hair."

It was such a sincere, pure, and honest comment. I wasn't even particularly vain about my hair, but the openness of his compliment really moved me. So much so that I didn't even mind that he failed to notice that I'm a guy.
