A small bird just managed to kill itself by slamming into our window
Poor little thing. I tried to revive it, but it was obviously killed instantly.
Probably broke its little neck.

...was it terrible of me to give it to my cat? :hide:
She sniffed at it briefly, then promptly picked it up in her mouth and carried it under our deck.

Hey, it's all part of the Circle of Life...

RIP little bird. O8)

2. You killed it by having clean windows..
Think about that.. And then smear dirt on your windows. Stop the killing..

3. We had a huge picture window when I was a kid
That happened several times until my mother hung some decorative doohickeys (that's the technical term) in the window. Birds are very pretty but not real bright for the most part (hence the term "birdbrain").

And no, I don't think you're bad for giving it to your cat. Though the cat will probably take to sitting beneath the window waiting for treats to slam into it.

4. I hate when that happens.
A few years back a beautiful male goldfinch flew full speed into the slider when he was trying to flee from a predator bird.

6. are you sure it wasn't just stunned?
I mean, a litle late now, but...for future reference. I've seen them come back from that. )f course, if the neck was obviously broken...

15. No, we've had stunned birds before that have recovered. This one was dead.
One eye was open and the other was half-closed, it was definitely a broken neck. :( ....at least it was quick, poor thing.

22. poor little thing
But there's that Darwin factor, you know? Anyway, I don't think it was bad you gave it to your cat. He probably took it and buried it. With cat honors.

21. The kid in the picture is Walt...
In one episode, he was reading about a certain type of bird for school, which caused that type of bird to fly into his window and die.

11. Birds fall from the window ledge above mine.
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 07:30 PM by Xipe Totec
Birds fall from the window ledge above mine.
Then they flap their wings at the last second.
You see birds fall from the window ledge above mine.
Then they flap their wings at the last second.

I can see their dead weight
Just dropping like stones,
Or small loaves of bread
Past my window all the time.

But unless I get up
Walk across the room
And peer down below
I don't see their last second curves
Toward a horizontal flight.

All these birds just falling from the ledge like stones.

Now due to a construct in my mind
That makes their falling and their flight
Symbolic of my entire existence,

It becomes important for me
To get up and see
Their last second curves toward flight.
It's almost as if my life will fall
Unless I see their ascent.

Mr. Mastodon Farm - Cake

One of my favorite Cake songs.
