CONFESS!!!!! At what point did you realize tonight was gonna be a good night?
Me?

When DUer Ramsey (who's house I'm at here in Philly) announced that her home district in Kentucky went democratic. Those house seats were all repuke and if Kentucky was going blue I knew the house was gonna go blue!!

1. Mine was a two-phase thing.
When it first started to look like we'd take the House, I was hesitatingly happy. When I realized that we've most likely won the senate, THAT is when I popped the cork on the champagne.

I've been blissed out ever since. It's a light-headed, absolutely lovely feeling. I'm staying up as long as it (and the champagne) lasts.

When I saw all the students that were ticked off about the trouble the "Victory Rally" caused on campus lining up at the Criminal Justice building on campus to Vote.I just knew that they were all voting for anyone but Talent!hehe!

I think the espresso at dinner still has me in high gear, that and the fact that the fireplace at Ramsey's house was at set at temperature "Deep in the depths of Hell"

Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 06:46 AM by Godlesscommieprevert
Because no-one would give us what the swings were against the pukes - the House seats were coming in really slowly at first, and I had flash-backs to 2004 when the votes slowed down for Kerry.
I was finally able to relax around midnight

Oh Happy Day!!! :toast:

15. Me, too. All I wanted was for Webb to beat Allen. Well, of course,
I wanted more than just that, but that was the real nail biter for me. I finally went to bed about 1AM with no decision and woke this morning to Webb leading.

It's a great day.

That was the start of it all. Watching the returns come in, and seeing the House called, was even better. And NOW I wake up today and find that the Senate isn't beyond us, either!

:woohoo:

If I were 21, I'd be SO FUCKING SHIT-FACED by now.

18. I kinda figured Cardin would win
Even though it looked a bit close there. I couldn't see Maryland replacing Sarbanes with Steele. That would have just boggled my mind.

But I knew it'd be a tough night for O'Malley. He won! Yes! :bounce:

22. Steele is a talented politician, I hate to admit.
and Cardin is not well known down here. O'Malley, either. Baltimore is a pretty regional political market.

I never heard of him before the campaign. Steele has the skill to parlay nothing into something, like Reagan.

23. Steele is a pompous asshole
And that's probably the nicest thing I could say about him.

Anyone who stands in front of a crowd of Jewish leaders in Maryland and compares Stem Cell research to the Holocaust deserves to go down in flames.

Congrats to Ben Cardin!

43. I disagree
Steele may be a complete phony, but he is neither pompous, or an asshole, in my opinion. He has truly great people skills, and charms most who come into contact with him. This makes him dangerous in the future.

He made very few mistakes, the one you cited being chief among them. He did very well in a blue state. He picked up votes from disaffected black Democrats who feel that they are being taken for granted by the party leadership.

19. When I got home last night.
I sat down at the computer at 7:30 Central and checked Skinner's fabulous results threads. OH Senate had already been called. OHIO!!!! PA was in the bag, and then NJ. It was happening fast. Then I started checking the House and marking pickups on my score sheet. I could barely keep up.

I kept at it until Jon Stewart came on, and I was watching his show when we took the House.

What a great night! I was so excited I chowed down about half the leftover Halloween candy! :D

39. I knew when Yarmuth won that something was up
Northup was the long established favorite and Yarmuth was considered a long shot at best -I have a longstanding and intense dislike of Northup and I was hoping against hope that Yarmuth could pull off a victory. When I heard the results there, I knew that this was going to be a good election for the Democrats

When they called a victory for Sherrod Brown so early on in Ohio, that was another good sign that gave me hope

But never in my wildest dreams did I imagine a result like we have now. I'm still savoring it

Despite all the discontent for the Bush regime in the rest of the country, none of our candidates statewide got much more than 40%. At least there were a lot of local pickups, which is good. My county is 100% Democratic, except for federal office-holders, but damn, I thought we'd win SOMETHING statewide.
