Who, in your family drives you nuts?
My sister makes me crazy. She thinks she knows everything about everything and doesn't hesitate to tell everyone everything she thinks she knows.

besides being a holier-than-thou religious nutcase, she is also mean. She deliberately didn't invite our DD to our niece's wedding. Everyone in the family was spelled out on the envelope and DD was deliberately left off.

Our DD is mentally handicapped. I guess she is one of those that believes you should still hide the infirm and mentally handicapped in the attic. Real Christian of her, ain't it???

We declined the wedding invitation and instead of a gift to the happy couple, we informed them that a donation is being made in DD's name to her day program.

Haven't heard a word from them since and I hope we never do.

28. My mother and her boyfriend
My mom because no matter what is going on, it's always about her. She's borderline, what can be done about it? Her therapist cut her loose years ago, and her asshole boyfriend is a retired prison psychologist (an MA, not a PHD, although he pretends to be the latter).

The boyfriend likes my 6 year old niece. The last time I saw him, she was sitting on his lap while he stroked her hair and the back of her neck. I stared at him until he saw me watching and immediately pulled his hand off of her.

He volunteered to treat sex offenders, because none of the other counselors wanted to deal with them. It is my professional experience that there are two kinds of people who want to work with sex offenders:
1. former victims who want to understand the person who abused them

and

2. Sickos who like to hear the offenders tell their stories.

My mom's boyfriend definitely falls into the latter category, because he likes to tell us those same stories that his former client-inmates told him.

Actually, there is a 3rd category-people who fall into it and end up being good at it. It's like working in Children's Services-most don't choose that career, but end up in it by taking a civil service test and telling themselves it's just until they can find something better. The next thing you know, it's been 20 years. Oops, that's me I'm talking about, not my mom's boyfriend!

31. I have this sister who makes one bad decision after another...
and then complains almost constantly about how tough her life is, the challenges she faces, the ordeals that are a major part of her daily routine.

As someone who has known her her entire life, I can honestly say that almost every problem she complains about is something she created, and she doesn't seem to recognize this or to change her behavior.

I would say 90 percent of conversation she initiates is made up of her complaining, or talking about how cute her kids are, or talking to her kids in baby talk.

Thanks for letting me vent!

34. My criminal freeper sociopath brother
He has a long arrest history, a string of illegitimate kids he never paid child support for, an ongoing love affair with drugs, and a love for anything sleazy.

I believe he's convinced that the rest of the world is as sleazy as he is, but hide it better than he does.

From time to time he'll join a church to get instant credibility. He's unbearable when he's religious, mostly because I know what an act it is.

I've never done anything to him, but he hates my guts. I'm sure he hates me because I can't be bullshitted by him. I'm not alone. He hates my wife, my father, and my step-father, whose only transgressions against him are that they aren't buying his bullshit either. He loves to send hate mail to us.

I know he's got some kind of personality disorder, but I have no sympathy for him. He's malicious and dangerous, and I don't want him in my life. The consolation is that he hates me and doesn't talk to me.

38. My mom and my sister
Don't misunderstand...I love them both dearly. It's good to have loved ones who teach you how to deal with people's quirks.

My sister will not shut up. She's 40 years old, and has been like this from the day she started talking. To make matters worse, she's a "born-again" christian rethug.

My mom is generally wonderful to be around; but she has a difficult time processing grief and disappointment. She can be very manipulative when she doesn't get her way. I've occasionally suggested that she get into counseling; but like doctors who are the worst patients, she's a social worker who won't get help for herself. She also has a tendency to analyze people to death.

50. Right now my sister
Monday evening I sent an email to family and friends asking them one last time to vote for the Dem candidate for Governor. She replies with "Sorry, I'm disappointed in him. I've had to work hard for what I have and he should know better than to give so much away to people who haven't earned it. I'm not that liberal." (my emphasis)

So after a WTF moment I reply asking 1) What do you mean? and 2) So you're going to vote for the republican candidate?

Her reply - "I'm insulted that you would think I would vote for her."

Insulted?!?

First of all 1/3 of the voters of this state voted for the republican. I think she would've made a horrid governor but I certainly would not consider saying someone voted for her an insult. I might say that about a bush voter but not this particular republican.

But following her logic she has 1) Insulted me because she thinks of me as 'very liberal' and apparently that equates to 'giving away tax money to people who haven't earned it' or rather 'being irresponsible' and 2) She's insulted 1/3 of the voters of this state who did vote for the republican candidate.

And she never did clarify what she was referring to when she said the dem candidate planed to 'give to much away to people who haven't earned it.'

58. there are times my immediate family makes me nuts
i love them all but sometimes i just wanna slap 'em.

the last time i called my dad when i was having a panic attack, his advice was to take more b vitamins. my mother responds emotionally to just about everything. my sister sometimes likes to tell me how i've screwed up my entire life and how to fix it.

but my extended family is completely fucking batshit.

my grandmother forces enough food on me to feed a high school football team and then gives me the number to weight watchers; my grandfather gets pissed at me when i won't eat food i don't like and one of my uncles is the know-it-all type who told me that a) mountain dew has no caffine and b) that i can't be buried in a jewish cemetery because i have pierced ears while he was feeding me ham.

don't even get me started on my mother's family...

Though there are many contendars, I would have to say my father. He is brilliant but also terribly annoying. For example, when I told him that I had seen "The Titanic", an hour later he had drawings of steamships and how they worked mechanically and I am waiting for my hubby to get me outta there.
