Everyone in NYC thought I was from Texas because of my accent, but |
|
I can assure you that Texans sound completely different than Mississippians. Just so you know!! :P

I live in Texas and I noticed a difference when I went to Atlanta (which I know is not in Mississippi but the accents are more similar to each other than they are to Texans' accents). Texas is more of a drawl really. I am sure some linguist could explain it.
I can also tell the difference between a Minnesota accent and a Wisconsin accent (well maybe the fact that Wisconsinites call a water fountain a "bubbler" helps too!).

and never heard the word 'bubbler'. I think that's a Milwaukee/Winnebago thing. My nephew's kinda nuts about it, or he was. The phrase 'drinking fountain' was like nails on a chalkboard for him.

Mississippians talk slower than Texans, generally.

what I noticed is that people who lived in TX their entire lives often had less of an accent that newcomers.

The same is true for MS. Just 30 miles NE of where I live, they talk a lot differently!

19. I think I sound like everyone on TV. Ha!! |
|
Most of them are taught not to speak with a specific accent and I sound NOTHING like any of them. And when I hear a southern accent on TV (a real southern accent, not some actor trying to get it right), I think I can't possibly sound like that!! Go figure!

Awesome....haha yeah, I totally agree with you. Texas accents are totally different. I think that they sound northern. Mississippi accents have way more of a drawl to them...though I talk really fast, unlike the typical southerner.
I guess they just stereotyped all southern accents as the same...oh well.
