Good Friday morning, Crew! (& I'm leaving DU)
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 03:24 AM by Random_Australian

Good morning everyone! How is everyone this a.m.? :bounce: Sorry to be posting so early, this daylight saving time means that I am a further two hours ahead of everyone. :coffee:

I bet you're wondering why I'm leaving, and the answer is simple - I'm going home for end-of-year holidays. :( I'll be back in March, I hope!

Anyway, what has everyone got planned for today? :bounce: I had an exam today, but I managed to completely fail it. Ah well, no worries, I'll make it all ok.

And it's the last day of the weekend, crew! :bounce: What have you got planned for the weekend? (If anything ;))

And how's everyone's life going? And who's happy to be alive? And who's STILL hung-over aftr the dem win?

And should I do a final "ask me a difficult question" thread as a send-off?

:bounce: Time to rise and shine, crew! :bounce:

The song of the day is "Everything you know is wrong" by 'Weird Al' Yankovic.

from my junior high days.

Anyways, I'm off to bed. Friday's a shorter day with only three classes, but I still have to get up at 8

12. Nothing really to speak of...
I did buy some new mini-blinds for my bedroom and now all I have to do is find some suitable curtains, so I think buying and installing window treatments looks to be the highlight.

13. That's not a bad highlight!
And does "suitable" curtains mean "curtains embroidered with 'Down with FReeps'"? :)

And installing window treatments? Is this some kind of terrist activity? (As a guy, Ihave a reputation to mantain vis a vie ignorance of decoration) :)

So, what style have you chosen? And what DOES 'window treatments' mean?

15. Now that would be an interesting curtain to say the least!
and unfortunately installing window treatments isn't as dangerous and clandestine as it sounds...it simply means hanging my curtains and blinds...hopefully I will be able to do it without putting giant holes in my wall.

As for the color, I'm thinking some kind of a neutral color because my walls are green and it would be damn near impossible to find something to match right and I would be pissed if I bought green ones and it turned out they clashed ever so slightly. I'm usually not such a prissy girl about most things but clashing colors do annoy me

11. Hail, primate! Boy, do I know THAT feeling.
Sickness wiped out my study for exams, and I have had four end-of-year exams this week! Made me a busy boy to be sure!

But I have tonight off. :)

And back home we sort of have a slow dialup thing. But we don't really use it. (Rural Australia - one person per ~16 square miles, I think)

So, any plans for the weekend?

18. Ahh, that sucks (both the exams and the crappy internet connections)
Damn, that's some ridiculously sparse population density right there. I'm not sure what the population density is like in the rural parts of this province right now, but the 1991 figure (only one I could find with the half-assed searching I'm willing to do at this ungodly hour) was 1.4 persons per square kilometer.

This weekend promises to be a very uneventful weekend. I predict a lot of sleep and probably a movie or two...or ten.

Well, it will be enjoyable nonetheless! :) Sounds pretty nice, really. A good bit of vegetabilising. :)

So, lemme guess, the movies will be George Bush speeches with Dobson commentary? Or is that not your thing? :)

Oh yeah, those videos sure are popular. :D

So, what kind of movies will you really be watching? C'mon, spill the beans!

Or, as I saw on a thread once, "Güten Morgen" I think was the spelling. :)

Anyway, the good news is you don't have to live without me until March.

If you happen to be some kind of vampire who can be killed for now and be brought back later.

And you call that weekend unexciting? Then you don't know what dreams are in store for you in the 'sleeping' part. :) (Ok, I have absolutely nothing to back that up, but it's a nice thought)

So, what's this friend meeting thing? Does it involve pie? :)

I still laugh about that time where the dialogue went a little something like this:

Detritus: An' now I count to ten, and when I finish I get to hit people. I am a constable of the law!

(Laughter from crowd)

Detritus: One.... two... free... four-er

(Screams of "Detritus is counting!" "It's the end of the world, run for your lives")

Such good books.

Hope things go well with the friend meeting... and how goes the library? Still bieng swarmed in millions upon millions of customers?

40. That reminds of that other awesome bit where there was the dilemma
that a witch could open the door into the desert of the afterlife to go in, but not one to get out, and there was the big build-up to how much of a simply enormous challenge it was going to be to get out, and then Granny Weatherwax opens a door into the realm and holds it open for the witch to get out, with the priceless dialogue:

Young Witch: What? But.... it's The Rules - I have to cross the desert, all alone, and that's the only way out!

Weatherwax: The Rules? I didn't sign anything... did you?

Young witch: Uh.... no.... but....

Weatherwax: Then we're not breaking the rules, are we? Nope! So come on in!

:)

Any favourit bits of yours you'd like to share?

55. Its called The Science of Discworld
Here are two

II. The Globe

The acclaimed Science of Discworld centered around an original Pratchett story about the Wizards of Discworld. In it, they accidentally witness the creation and evolution of our universe in a plot interwoven with a Cohen & Stewart non-fiction narrative about Big Science. In The Globe, the same structure applies, only this time the themes are Human Science: History, Origins of Language, Archaeology, Anthropology, Evolutionary Psychology and, overall, the importance of Story to our culture (and of course to all Pratchett fans). There is a well-known theory that there are only seven stories known to man. The Elves of Discworld have discovered an eighth – a story of awesome power – which they play out on Roundworld (Earth) in their attempt to defeat the Witches of Discworld.

III. Darwin's Watch

The wizards discover to their cost that it’s no easy task to change history.

Roundworld is in trouble again, and this time it looks fatal. Having created it in the first place, the wizards of Unseen University feel vaguely responsible for its safety. They know the creatures that lived there escaped the impending Big Freeze by inventing the space elevator — they even intervened to rid the planet of a plague of elves, who attempted to divert humanity onto a different time track. But now it’s all gone wrong — Victorian England has stagnated and the pace of progress would embarrass a limping snail. Unless something drastic is done, there won’t be time for anyone to invent space flight, and the human race will be turned into ice-pops.

Why, though, did history come adrift? Was it Sir Arthur Nightingale’s dismal book about natural selection? Or was it the devastating response by an obscure country vicar called Charles Darwin whose bestselling Theology of Species made it impossible to refute the divine design of living creatures?

Can the God of Evolution come to humanity’s aid and ensure Darwin writes a very different book? And who stopped him writing it in the first place?

101. Ok, now THAT makes me feel better.
After all that about "yay funny clever compliments" and stuff, finding out I'm not the first to not have kissed at 18 is a great thing. :)

Lemme see, drawing on poor memory.... is it 'Danke'?

Ah, whatever 'Thankyou' is, who cares about the language.

102. Believe me, you really aren't the only one
I always thought so myself. But when I started to study at age 19/20 a lot of my new friends were in the same position. It was good to know.

A teacher of mine told my parents I am a late starter. But once I start you better watch out. It became true

(this one because it is so cute)

PS: "Danke" was correct :D

29. Uh huh. My sources tell me that "dinner with family" is code for
"PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARTY! :headbang:"

Though they might be wrong. Apparently, they also inform counter-protesters on the spelling of words, but they don't sound too moranic.

Ah well, dinner with family might get exciting. Or it might be dull in a good way! :)

And as for puttering around the house, might I ask exactly WHAT possessed you to ride motorcycles in the house? Just kidding! :)

Ah! So there is partying involved! Looks like someone's picked up from the 'boring adult stuff' view of the world. ;)

56. Alright! I must admit, I'm partial to the odd game myself.
The prospect of bieng a pirate (as in, Sid Meier's Pirates - "sail the oceans in the 17th century" aka "go nuts and sink or capture every ship and city in sight and take mountains of gold") is just too tempting sometimes. :) :D

And of course there is my attempts to solve strategy games by algorithms - works pretty well. :)

And I imagine drinking adds a whole new thing to the games. :)

Sounds like a damn good time - so what kind of games? Are you a shooter person, or a strategist? Or perhaps something else? A racer?

And, any plans for the weekend?

Ever see the Micallef Pogramme? For some reason the chance that ILA could stand for "I Love Australia" reminded me of this line of his:

"And finally, if you live in Adelaide and you're travelling interstate tomorrow.... then I'm not suprised"

The first two words are correct, but "A" stands for "Arsenal," I love football.

I won't do much over the weekend ... probably watch my Ghost in the Shell DVD, Iron Chef on SBS, and the football broadcasted later on in the night. In between that, I'll occupy my time with having thoughts about what I want to do with my future.

Yes I have, brilliant show, definitely one of the funniest programs (pogram?) I can think of, Australian or otherwise.

I've never been to Adelaide, but I have a friend, Rhys, who lives in Adelaide, and constantly reminds me of how boring it is.

Call me tacky if you wish, but I prefer Neon Genesis (actually, not the series just the ending).

You know, the alternate ending made after the guy in charge had the breakdown? Well, I was studying pyschology this year, and let me tell you it is VERY interesting from that perspective. :)

So, what time is it in Melbourne? (Or as the yanks say, Mell-boor-n) 8:00 pm -ish right now for me. :)

48. As I type this, 8:07pm.
It's a perfect evening, not chilly, not stuffy, I can have no complaints whatsoever with the present conditions.

I should've been more specific, sorry. I have seen Ghost in the Shell, but that was many years ago. What I'll be watching will be Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The DVD boxset arrived in the mail today.

I'm glad to of ordered from Devoted, not only are they generally cheaper, but it arrived quicker due to them being located in Victoria rather than South Australia, as most other online stores have their warehouses interstate.

A different perspective for you, yes. When I was watching that, my mindset was, "what the fuck is happening, ah nevermind, I'll just go along with everything shown to me..."

but I distinctly remember the line "Hey, Mum! Dad! Look at my new metal body!" :)

I'll say no more to prevent spoilers. :) (The way it is quoted here is about a minor character and won't spoil. :))

But yeah, NGE the End of Evangelion was a bit of a WTFing spectacular. Excellent music though. :)

And then of course there is that French anime - "The Fantastic Planet" have you seen that?

58. Its an animated film about humans who are (mostly) kept as pets by
giant blue people who gain energy by some kind of weird meditation thing.

I won't tell you too much to avoid spoilers, but one thing I can tell you is the scenery is absolutely trippaliciously weird - picture a freakish landscape with odd plants around, then as the camera pans you see a plant that has grown into a cage, with a strange thing that looks like a waving tree with a face is trapped inside the cage. It's laughing, more and more as a bird flies toward it. It just finds this bird amazingly funny. Just laughs and laughs and laughs.... and when it comes close, grabs it, shakes it and throws it into the ground, dead, amongst a pile of similar dead birds.

This is the background scenery.

The film is pretty entertaining. There is very little talking though.

Dear R_A, Duppers the nickname of the greatest dog that ever lived, whom I lost 24 yrs. ago. She was a huge, beautiful, very intelligent 90 lb. yellow lab. She was the epitome of love and compassion; she was telepathic and she was my heart.

Although I can never be as altruistic, she's my role model. I posted about her in the pet group once, "No other species or living thing on Earth, including human beings, possess the capacity to give so much, demand so little, and forgive so quickly. We are in their debt and they'll possess our hearts forever."

Thanks for asking. See ya in March. :)

seeing family and reconnecting with loved ones is nice.

Football is this case is American Football; although my son and I are HUGH soccer fans as well. It is not aired on TV a lot though, and the only place you can really find games regualrly is the Spanish channel.

Yeah, doing nothing with my son is my favorite thing to do. :)
