|
I was thinking of signing up. I'm not a movie freak, b ut there are a lot of flix that I would like to se , but I don't want to buy them.
I have seen the place discussed here before and some of you liked it and some don't. What has been your experience? Thanks

2. Yep. Go for it. You can quit whenever, so there' s no risk really. |
|
I'm not a movie freak, but I end up watching and seeing more b/c of netflix. I only have 3 tv channels, so it's great to catch up on tv shows, too. And being able to watch them at your convenience is great, too. I've been known to keep one up to a month.

And that's what made me think about joining, catching up on TV shows. A lot of people have told me I would like the Sopranos, so I thought Net flix might be a good way to watch them.

HBO's Rome. If you like historical dramas, you'll love this. It's about the last days of the Roman Republic and it's terrific.

3. I signed up last month and like it very much. |
|
I have had nothing but good experiences from them. Lots of titles, fast delivery. One title I ordered wasn't delivered and they sent another copy free of charge.
I highly recommend Netflix.

What do you mean they sent it free of charge? Do you mean they sent it even though you had other discs still?
I appreciate your input, as I do everyone's who replied. Thanks.

10. Hey, johnnie. Well, it's a monthly fee. |
|
I got the package of $17/per month. Considering that a DVD costs around $3 to rent (a new release, anyway) $17 per month is pretty damn good.
Yeah, they sent it even though I had two other DVD's at home.
One other advantage...there's not a specific time limit as to when you return the DVD's. NOT to say that you could keep them for a year, but it's not an overnight sort of deal.

4. I'm contemplating canceling |
|
Turnover time between discs has increased, and they are increasingly sending me return slips whose "nearest" office is in California or New Jersey, even though the MN office is still around.
I like the netflix concept, but service quality has declined a bit.
Nor do I have a huge long queue of discs; the problems I'm experiencing were once reserved for those with dozens of titles racked up.

|
You can fit two or three DVDs in a sleeve. So I kept a few of the local slips by sending more than one in a sleeve. I save them for DVDs with random destinations.
I do think service has declined, though. However, there are ways around it.

9. I had Netflix, but I switched to Blockbuster |
|
because they also send you coupons for weekly for free in-store rentals. And you can also now take your film back to a Blockbuster store and get another movie right away. You don't have to wait for it to come in the mail. But Netflix is great also.

They just have the one plan though, and I am thinking of going with a cheaper plan because I won't watch enough movies to cover the 18 bucks a month.

Blockbuster's in-store option is great when you're having a craving to see a particular movie right away. The major difference is selection. Netflix has better skin flicks if you're into looking at nekkid people.

...so I'm still under the 4 discs at once plan. Their selection is far better than any of the local rental stores, so we've stuck with it. I think they've cut back on the intentional delays, but those really don't affect me except during the summer, when I have more watching time.

I know that some people have had complaints about the delivery time slowing down considerably after awhile, but I haven't had that problem. We live near one of the distribution centers, and I think that makes a difference. We send a movie back and have the next one in our queue 3 days later. I would definitely recommend it.

I appreciate all the input. It's not like it is a lot of money that I'll be blowing, but I wanted to see what other experiences were.
I think I'm gonna give it a whirl. You have to understand that I haven't personally rented a movie in over 12 years and the last movie I went to see in the theater was Kundun in 1997.
Thanks again. :hi:

We use the one-movie-at-a-time $9.99/month service and love it. They don't harass you if you keep the movie for weeks. They ship the next one quickly after receiving the previous one. It's been great for us.

I'm the kind of guy who goes into Blockbuster and leaves empty handed, because there's nothing I think is worth watching.
But I can ALWAYS find something I want on NetFlix!
I wish they'd offer more instructional videos (they do have some). Then they'd be perfect.
BTW: Blockbuster has a service that's a clone of NetFlix, but it now allows you to return movies to your local store and get immediate shipping on your next title. That's a big plus. I'd recommend looking into it.

if you rent a lot. I still use it because there's no easier way to get independent/foreign/obscure movies in my area, but the delays can be frustrating.

26. As much as I like to support independent rental places... |
|
...I simply love Netflix due to their huge rental library and the convenience of using mail. I don't own a car, and renting from one of the terrific independent rental places in my area would require making special trips into neighborhoods where I rarely go. Then I'd have to keep an eye on the calendar and return the DVD promptly.
The convenience factor makes the difference for me, especially since I have long commutes and so little time to watch movies.
It also doesn't hurt that you can do a quick search of an actor, director, title, etc., and find what you want fairly easily. All the French films, HBO productions, British TV shows, and whatever else I've missed can be ordered up without effort.
A couple of caveats:
1. Do pay attention to the number of movies you're allowed to rent in a month. If you put off watching and returning something, you can miss the deadline for renting a new movie and therefore not get the best value on your monthly fees. 2. Sometimes you'll get a damaged DVD that won't play. That happened on my very first rental. However, it was replaced immediately (the mail order facility is right in the same county), and all further rentals have shown no technical problems.

29. I've been very happy with it |

I got fed up with buying DVDs that I only ended up watching once or twice. I hate the movie rental stores- I was always racking up fees because I was late returning my films and their selection sucks!
Netflix has really solved that problem. The price is very reasonable, and I've rented a lot of movies I probably wouldn't have watched otherwise. Netflix has a great selection of all kinds of films and no limit on how long you can keep the movie. You just don't get your next movie until you return the ones you have. It's so convenient to rent by mail. The turn around is usually only about 3 days, and if you stagger your returns you can have a new movie pretty much every other day. I've only had one minor problem about a return of a damaged DVD- they never did send me a replacement - otherwise the service has been fine. I've rented new movies, old favorites that I like to watch occasionally but not often enough to buy the DVD, I've watched more foreign and classic films than ever, and the new releases are pretty timely.
I think you'll enjoy Netflix.

my 2 cents worth: I've enjoyed netflix, but I think I rip myself off with it, 'cause sometimes I don't watch the movies fast enough to really save money with it, over the local video store. The "no late fees" thing rules, though.

There is a quick turnaround on DVDs as long as something is in stock. If you have trouble receiving a disc, they'll send another one. I've had it for a year with no hassle, and their selection is top notch.

I did get my share of broken or otherwise unplayable discs, but they always sent replacements right out.
The only reason I cancelled was that I moved in with someone who also has it, so we share the account. Between us, we just don't need 6 movies at a time!
