Battlestar Galactica - a guess as to what will happen (spoilers to prev. episodes)
Is this a far-fetched scenario for Battlestar Galactica?

While a lot darker, more intense and more complex than the original BSG, they have generally followed the overall ‘Big Picture’ plot of the original.

In the original, like the new one, the human race was betrayed by Baltar and nearly completely wiped out by the Cylons. Granted, in the old one, it was an outright intentional betrayal, while in the new one, it was seemingly unintentional: geeky Baltar gives up the defense/computer secrets to a Victoria’s Secret supermodel type in exchange for sex.

From there, like the original, the Battlestar Galactica leads a rag-tag fleet of human survivors in search of the lost colony of Earth. They even had an episode similar to the original series where they find an astral map supposedly leading them to Earth.

I was recently thinking that in the original, Baltar became a man of power among the Cylons. I recall him sitting in one of those chairs on a base star and having Centurions coming in to be commanded by him. My memory is too foggy to recall how high up in the food chain he actually was however.

But, my thought was that somehow the new Baltar manages to save the cylons from this strange new plague – but, he does it in exchange for being a leader/the leader among the Cylons.

Thoughts? Is it possible? Way off base?

1. I had the same thought during last week's episode.
Seeing the new Baltar in the base ship reminded me of John Colicos as the old Baltar commanding a Cylon ship.

If this disease offers him a chance to save the Cylons, it could happen.

BTW - The New BSG is the first show in years that I get excited over new episodes.

2. I know what you mean
I think it's the first time since "Buffy" where I've gotten excited over new TV.

3. Yeah, Baltar Will Eventually Probably Become Some Sort Of "Leader"
Among the Cylons.

Last weeks episode was great in how it revealed so many tantalizing clues as to what's going on. Like the "six" in his head is actually not really a "six" but something else (an angel of god) that Baltar PERCEIVES as a "six". I have a feeling that Baltar will become to be the leader of the Cylon's because the Cylon "god" has picked him for some reason and that his "guardian angel" is guiding him for that purpose.

4. Laura Roslin will be outed tonight as a T-1000 model Terminator
when an Alien explodes out of Cally's belly, tearing the face of Chief, revealing him to be a Soong-style android. As he stumbles around, electricity jumping out of his body, he crashes into Starbuck - the electric jolt burns her flesh, which slides off as she turns into a violent monster and we realize all along that she is A Thing, letting us, the Battlestar Audience, know that the humanity that left earth and created the 12 colonies left Earth no earlier than 1982, when The Thing's spacecraft was discovered in Antarctica and its body was thawed out by short-lived Norwegians, and that at least some of the humans, if not all, were actually Things when they left the earth.

That's the twist I'm expecting.

5. and don't forget
to be revealed in the coming weeks:

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... as the rebels evacuated their base on the ice planet of Hoth, one of the fleeing rebel ships miscalculated their hyperpace jump, sending the ship careening out of control, where it arrives and crash lands on a world full of monstrous reptilian creatures. The subsequent explosion sends the world into an Ice Age, killing off the monstrous reptiles, and allowing the human survivors to start building their own new world, which they call Earth.

6. And then someone on Galactica will design a new fighter
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 04:00 PM by Rabrrrrrr
and it will look just like an X-Wing and someone will ask, "Where did you come up with that design?" and the maker will say, "I don't know - it just felt... natural... familiar", and the music will get all spooky and then some old guy in a stillsuit will say to himself, "And he shall know your ways as if born to them" and silently say a prayer before running off somewhere.

7. I remember in the original BG film, Baltar was killed by the Cylons
on order of the Imperious Leader. But they brought him back for the TV show.

I thought that sucked.

8. In the original Baltar convinced the Cylons
only he could succeed in tracking down the RTF and they gave him a Base Star to go after them.

I think you're correct, they're headed in a similar direction. I'm not sure about him curing the plague (perhaps) but I think it'll be his usefulness (as he presents it to them) in finding Earth that will put in in charge of a Base Star or perhaps sharing command with a Six or something. And it wont be as simple as in the original - "Ok Baltar here you go, take this Base STar and get to work." The Cylons may put him in an apparent position of power to suit their own agenda and lead him on for a while. I'm not sure I buy the reason they've given for searching for Earth.

=====more spoilers==========

And speaking of parallels with the original show. I think the thus far unrevealed Cylon models will play the role of the mysterious 'angles' that resurrected Apollo in the original and that's why the known skin job models are so twitchy about the others.

10. I didn't buy the cylon reasoning re: Earth, either
It would be interesting, though, since Earth is generally monotheistic, like the cylons.
