Terra Scare! My office was evacuated this evening. |
|
Apparently there was a suspicious package on the subway platform which goes right underneath my building. They forced us to drop everything and leave the building and outside the street was packed with police and firetrucks etc. I was just happy to get out early on a Friday (well, 5pm)
I have noticed a lot more police on the subways lately, and I have to admit it does make me nervous. I don't think I would mind getting blown up and dying instantly, but my greatest fear is being trapped underground. The thought of it totally freaks me out.

2. I am not sure - I tried to find out about it in the local news but |

haven't been able to find anything yet. The firemen told us to find another way home so we walked for blocks to take a subway on the other side of town.
It must have been fairly serious for all those cops and firemen to have been there. Hopefully there will be something in the news tomorrow morning. Knowing Bloomberg, he probably wants to keep it quiet so as not to "panic" anybody (i.e. keep people from spending money and going to work.)
I think I am going to start going in early to work so that I don't ride the subway during rush hour.

3. ISn't that good though? |

The mayor's job is to keep panic down and the city safe. Going to work and spending money is a good thing. Or so I thought? I recently read an article on him in Rolling Stone. He's one of his party's biggest critic and the article made him out to be more moderate than you would think a billionaire would be. Duckie

4. It's his typical paternalistic attitude that pisses people off. |
|
The big daddy "I know what's best for everybody, therefore I am not going to let you know what is going on" attitude doesn't really endear him to New Yorkers. Let us make our own decisions, but keep us informed. I don't think they have to cry terror alert every times something out of the ordinary happens, but we have been seeing a lot more cops on the subways lately, which leads us to assume the worse, regardless of what is really going on.
He's still a elitist Billionaire and he still treats New Yorkers like children. He's not as right-wing as most republicans - he would never be the mayor of NYC if he was - but he tends to interfere too much in people's lives with his "nanny state" laws and people here resent it.
