On a music roll tonight: What does this song mean to you (total eclispe of the heart)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z025bcKYJ7s

And post one if you like for others to reflect on.

To me - this song means a lot in a lot of different ways. 'Blue Eyes' was my Uncle's HAM radio name. He died in the 80's of Leukemia. One of the first few people I knew well who passed on.

Relates to me in other ways 'living in a powder keg and giving off sparks' speaks the volatility of my life at times, with my heart being eclipsed today over the pain of things in the past.

And that is just for starters. Don't want to spend all night writing about it, won't ever get to hit post if I do!

1. reminds me of my senior year of college
my first of two. "Once upon a time I was falling in love. Now I'm only falling apart." Sturm und Drang. It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

6. I think it is the sentiment
rather than the voice he despises.
The song does kinda mawk, but I am a sucker for mawkishness and mawkiosity. The mawk will inherit the earth.

5. man, youtube really sucks
So I go looking for a video there of "This Cowboy's Hat" about people who have passed on. Not there.

How about a video of "Daddy never was the Cadillac Kind" where daddy is a union organizer of coal miners who line the roads as his funeral procession rolls by? Not there.

What about Def Leppard's "The Gods of War"? Not there.

Okay. Collin Raye's "I think about you" a deeply moving video where Collin is a cop who sees battered and exploited women and sings that every woman makes him think about his young daughter. Not there. Neither is his "What if Jesus came back like that?" Neither is "the 11th commandment" (Honor thy children). But this great song is there, in a tinny recording and tied to photos of the Bush family. I do not think anyone should watch it, although I found it funny in a deeply twisted way. It was so outrageous that anybody could see 'love' in the Bush family. Maybe if the song was "evil remains" instead of "love remains".

'Collin Raye's "I think about you" '

Damned fine song! Thanks for reminding me of that one. Damn shame it is not there. If you dig it up let me know.

8. That song smokes anything that Queen ever did in the genre of
"ridiculously overblown pop music"
TEOTH is a guilty pleasure for me. Queen brings me no pleasure at all.

10. 2 possibilities
1. More proof not much good entertainment comes from the Welsh...
2. She's horny and has no lover that met her qualifiers.

Still, there's always a gem in the rough:

Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart

13. It's the song that my first "kissing" boyfriend dedicated to me
Mitch...his goal in life was to play piano in a rock band just like Journey.

I think he's the one who gave me mono.

15. Oh, I LOVE Steinman.
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 04:06 PM by oktoberain
Jim Steinman is the man who wrote and composed that song, along with countless others I adore. He wrote "Holding Out For A Hero" (Bonnie Tyler again), "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All" (Air Supply), "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" (Celine Dion), and pretty much everything good that Meat Loaf ever did.

I'm a sucker for overblown songs with choir background vocals, thundering percussion, and soaring, complicated lyrics. :D
