Name some movies that were perfectly cast.
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 10:15 AM by blondeatlast
Top of the head thing--if you have to think about it, they weren't perfectly cast, IMHO.

To start, for me:

Clueless
Snatch
Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion

Edit: damn spelling!

probably the best casting of all time:

"Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" (1962)

6. Bruce Almighty
Bruce Almighty may not be on the 100 great movies list, but I enjoyed it.

Clearly, Jim Carrey and Steve Carells (sp?) took those parts where no one else could. Jennifer Aniston was fantastic as Bruce's girlfriend. I think she played it just right. AND -- last but not least -- I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE seeing Morgan Freeman cast as God. He was marvelous! As soon as I saw that Morgan Freeman was God, I couldn't stop grinning. It just worked SO WELL.

I saw a trailer for Evan Almighty where God decides to have Evan build an ark and become a modern day Noah. I wasn't exactly hooked by the trailer. It seemed that the script was much weaker on this new one, but I'll probably go see it just to see Morgan Freeman playing God again.

7. GWTW
Hard to imagine anyone else other than Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable in the leads for that film. Every major actress in Hollywood tried out for the part of Scarlett before Leigh was cast. Can you imagine how the film would have turned out with Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, or Tallulah Bankhead as Scarlett?

8. Casablanca
If I remember correctly they wanted Clark Gable to play Rick, and he turned it down. Bogart almost didn't take it, because he thought that he was only being offered the parts that Gable turned down.

Now, think about that. Can you imagine Casablanca without Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains, etc. I sure can't!

58. Pride and Prejudice (The A&E/British Version) & LOTR (with some exceptions)
The cast of P&P was perfect. (especially compared to the insipid new version. Jena Malone does a hideous English accent).

LOTR had a great cast. They were lucky to find Viggo to replace one-note Stuart Townsend. But Hugo Weaving and Liv Tyler might have been replaced.

25. I think there are some roles in Harry Potter that are
BRILLIANTLY cast throughout the series, but I wouldn't say the whole series is PERFECTLY cast.

Since it's from a book of course everyone has their own ideas about what the characters look like.

34. I thought the casting in the first movie was terrific
A couple were physically different from the way I pictured them; Ron, the twins and Hermione. So I guess perfect wouldn't be the right the description but I thought they captured the spirit of all the characters wonderfully unlike a couple of the recent choices. I think the new Dumbledore is horrible, way to angry.

Not only perfectly cast, but a perfect, truly inspirational movie.
Two things: One, though it doesn't get much more macho as a topic than the Mercury space program, the women in the movie are as well drawn and memorable as the men are. Two, though we agree on a mere handful of topics under the sun, my buddy Andy the Right Wing Republican loves The Right Stuff as much as I do.

I can't believe how well they cast the characters, they all look exactly like the band members, it was almost freaky. I was a little kid in the late 60's, but I thought Jim Morrison was awesome. Too bad he died so young.

63. No contest.... Dr. Strangelove.
Peter Sellers -- President Murken Muffley, Lt. Lionel Mandrake, Dr. Strangelove
George C. Scott -- Gen. 'Buck' Turgidson
Sterling Hayden -- Brig. Gen. Jack D. Ripper
Keenan Wynn -- Col. 'Bat' Guano
Slim Pickens -- Maj. T.J. 'King' Kong
Peter Bull -- Russian Amb. Alexi de Sadesky

Even the bit players were great, including James Earl Jones in a very early part as the bombadier.

This is as close to a flawless movie as one can get. Even the final scene in the War Room, where Sellers goes over the top as Dr. Strangelove and the rest of the cast (especially Peter Bull) is visibly stifling outright laughter, the film just works.

Brilliant cast and direction.
