Why would married, successful men go to Tijuana for an evening?
My husband was down in San Diego at a medical convention. A bunch of married drug reps, all in the 30-40 age bracket, insisted on driving down to Tijuana on a Friday evening.

My husband and a handful of other guys said "No Way!" and stayed in SD, found a nice restaurant, had a great meal, listened to a little jazz, had a few drinks and called it a night.

He's a good guy.

But WHY? What exactly is the allure of Tijuana? I am so curious now..is it some kind of mecca for fun?

1. tons of prostitutes there, right?
Or is that an undeserved reputation for Tijuana?

2. I was there once, a long time ago and it looked like a big street fair.
I just don't get why someone who has travelled to San Diego, would want to spend a night in Tijuana. San Diego is beautiful and has great restaurants and attractions and night life.

Maybe they'd never been to Mexico and wanted to try it?

6. i love border towns
although the USA is right across the river (in texas), there is a different vibe altogether. plus the very real possibility of danger (nuevo laredo, matamoros).

don't know much about california, but south texas, the valley operates in different time, very strange place.

9. It's a blast!
I think so. When I lived in LA, we went to Tijuana all the time but, usually went a little further down to Rosarito Beach. Something about crossing over the border into a different country...people just throw their inhibitions to the wind and get crazy & have fun. Even if you don't like to party much, it's fun to go for the experience. I've never heard about the prositutes. Tijuana has a bad reputation and personally, I don't know why.

7. not for 10 bucks

in san diego.

"boystown" (border town prostitution districts) has differing levels of service. the nicer places cost more. they have cheap motels where you basically go into a stall and the cost is about 7 - 10 dollars.

bear in mind that crack and heroin is infinitely cheaper in these places (most street prostitutes also have substance abuse issues) and the sorry parade of humanity churns out its daily show of degeneration and corruption 24-7.

11. That's exactly what one of the gentlemen said to my husband.
I think they were just looking for some fun.

Whatever, they sure came dragging home the next morning. Must've been a good time.

13. Well.....
There's trouble everywhere if you go looking for it. I'm either totally wild and crazy or very naive cause going for dinner (Puerto Nuevo lobster...yum) and bar hopping afterwards was a great time. That's not saying you don't have to use caution and common sense... as in any situation.

12. I guess being married and successful doesn't always mean being happy
If that isn't the reason, then I use my default answer: boys are stupid. :D
