Why don't I feel happy now?
Does anybody else feel a strange let-down after the mid-term elections, or is it just me? Maybe it's the change in the weather, now, since it's so damned cold here today.
I better get my act together, and soon, because I'm expected at a birthday party in about an hour.

2. No, not really.
Just keep saying "Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi". You'll feel better. :-)

It just doesn't seem as much of a change as I expected. Possibly, I am expecting too much too soon...possibly it's because I was really hoping Chris Bell (D) could win the gubernatorial race here in Texas and he didn't. Maybe it's just because I'm cold and tired.

8. I understand.
And I'm sorry that Chris Bell didn't win (thank you, Kinky Freidman. :grr:).

But we won a huge victory Tuesday. And we'll be in good shape for 2008.

Enjoy your birthday party tonight. :-)

They don't get sworn in until January.

If you're feeling *really* salty, go on in to GD. They're never happy. ;)

4. My dear KC2!
I suspect part of the let-down is because we don't quite believe it yet...the victory, I mean!

I know that for me, it hasn't sunk in.......and most likely won't till January, when they all get sworn in..

I think that the birthday party will help drive the demons away, baby!

 :loveya:

10. It's natural. Even if its for the better there is a
shock when a political tsunami comes through. We now have to reorient to the new reality.

13. I feel like crap. Can't figure out why.
Probably has to do with living in the only red state in the country.

19. YES!
Being in a red state and county, I feel like I'm on the outside looking in, not in the clique even though I'm one of you. If it wasn't for DU, I would be isolated from folks who speak my language and hold my values.

East Texas! Boy, I felt lost in a strange country when I lived in Austin. I can't even imagine living in East Texas. You have trees, though. That's some consolation. Trees are liberal. Go hug one. LOL

14. Dementors?
Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around them. Even Muggles(non-magic folk) feel their presence, though they can't see them. Get too near a Dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you.

20. Probably lots of reasons.
Medicare is a fast moving train headed off a cliff with Social Security not far behind. We are at war, with no end in site. Huge budget deficits. There is some good news though, we are Americans and we always figure out a way to make things work out.

26. Yeah
The anticipation I'm feeling is equivalent to the way I felt about Christmas as a child. I have to wait until January to open my gifts but they just keep on giving after that.

23. I feel the same as you
I'm happy about the elections, but the way I feel outside of them is unrelated. I tend towards depression anyway, and I think maybe I thought the elections would turn around the way I feel more than they actually did. Plus, I am pretty anxious because I am moving off in a couple months to go to grad school and have to take care of a number of things like getting another job, finding an apartment, etc., and it makes me feel overwhelmed.

24. I have been having a very strange reaction, too.
Edited on Sun Nov-12-06 07:50 AM by Hell Hath No Fury
I should have been crazy with joy and happiness at the outcome, but I have been left with a feeling I have been trying very hard to put it into words.

What I came up with was "grim relief".

For me, there are just too many dead and maimed Americans, too many maimed and dead Iraqis, and too much terrible damage done to take any great happiness in this election.

Coupled with the change in season (which is very hard on me), and I have been left with a very unsatisfactory feeling after this election.

I wish it were all as simple as having a good election. I don't think anything short of Bush & Co. in chains will make me genuinely happy.

On edit: thanks fror bringing this up!
