Am I a snob???
I went to the wine store today and like to try different wines along with my favorite. I bought a sauvignon blanc from New Zealand from Coopers Creek. I didn't realize at the time of purchase but it has a screw top no cork. I paid about 10.99 for the bottle but feel like I am drinking low budget wine. It's not bad but a bit too grapefriuty for my taste.

1. I recently saw a show
about how the vineyards are switching to screw tops but that some people have a mental block about it. On the show they were saying how the screw caps were actually better at preserving the integrity of the wine.

So, yeah. You're a snob.

14. I am having a glass of sauvignon blanc myself
from a bottle with a screw cap. I buy those little 6 ounce bottles because I can never finish a bottle of wine by myself. Plus they are great to keep around when you just need a little bit for cooking.

15. Great idea
I hate popping one open (err...screwing one open) for just a little to cook with.

2. Kind of.
But that's ok. But like the other poster said, it is better at preserving the integrity of the wine, and you don't have any cork getting into the bottle.
Speaking of trying different wines, we like to get the small bottles of wine so that if we don't like it we don't feel bad about throwing it out. I love going to the liquor store.

4. Apparently, that's the new thing these days.
I'm out here in the Santa Cruz mountains, and there is a popular winery called Bonny Doon Vineyards which is doing all their wines with screw tops. And believe me, they make some killer wines....but yes, it's an adjustment getting past the no-cork thing.

8. actually wine is all about one`s taste
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 08:14 PM by madrchsod
price does not have anything to do with it. i just read the latest reviews and prices on 5 star champaign/sparkling wines and the price range was from 15 to 125 a bottle. it`s not the price it`s if you like the taste

12. yep
It's funny to go to a wine tasting party where many guests will bring expensive wines only to find out that the $10 bottle won the most votes.

10. I'm with you
I love the sound of the pop...something I'm robbed of when buying a screw top. Plus I feel like an idiot when I try to open a screw top with the bottle opener. Since this normally happens when I'm busy talking to guests at a dinner party, I tend to have an audience for this type of idiot moment.

13. OMG
That's exactly what I did. Only with out an audience. I tried to cut the foil with my foil cutter and nothing happened.

16. If you like red wines - try ....
Bonny Doon Cardinal Zin (2004) - another screw top and delicious!

Don't judge a bottle by it's cork or screw cap!

18. It's pretty tasty with pasta dishes.
I started out drinking whites, myself, but have branched out a bit. I tend to enjoy a glass with a fruity, slightly sweet flavor. Not too keen on extremely dry wines.
