6. Watching it as well
Didn't Watch Ultimate Final this season.. but I always try to catch a free UFC show when it's on Spike. I'm usually not dissappointed.

7. Thats two of us!
I used to do this for a living(very similar anyway). I was also believe it or not was invited to fight in UFC 3. Ken Shamrock was out working as King of Pancrase, and they needed a Catch wrestler to represent the style. Not that i am so great, but it was held in Charlotte, and i was close by. At the time i thought it was a no where move, and not worth my time or the pay offered.

8. UFC. .
Was that the one where Royce couldn't continue after his match with Kimo?

I'm not a huge UFC follower.. but I do remember watching some of the earlier UFCS via tape rentals. I just can't remember if that was the one.

Stupid question, if you had gone, any idea who you would've been up against?

12. Yep thats the one.
I did attend the event live then. I was more wrapped up in trying to be a professional wrestler at that specific time. No idea who i would have been matched against. That was not determined untill right before the event. I woulda just got subbed by Royce anyway most likely, as i am about the same size as Kimo, or was.

14. "nods" cool...
never been to an MMA event before sounds like it would've been a good time though.

I'm more of a prowrestling fan thanks to my uncles and my grand pa. . but I like to watch MMA as a secondary whenever it's on. Heck I just bought my first Pride Fighting D.V.D recently (the 2000, Grand Prix) on a whim and so far enjoyed it.

19. It was a good time.
I was interested in having a look first hand at this Royce character. Never would have picked the skinny little Brazilian guy to tap out and beat big guys.

I was into wrestling first as well, thats why i learned Catch as catch can wrestling. That was the original style of the first pro wrestlers like Frank Gotch, Ed Lewis, and other greats such as Verne Gange, Lou Thez, and Stu Hart. It almost died as the focus of pro wrestling went from wrestling to entertainment. When i learned in the 80's there were only 3-4 guys in the U.S. who knew and taught real Catch Wrestling. Ken Shamrock, and i actually trained with the same guy, Nelson Royal, and Frank Gotch.

I think interest in MMA is a natural progression from pro wrestling. I hope you continue to enjoy it. :toast:

Great night of fighting so far. Maybe not the best fighters, but the good match ups made for great fights.

That's the first time I've seen a finish like that! That must have been the fight that was referred to in the earlier post!

34. That's the best finish in UFC history, IMO
I re-watched it about 20 times. It was remarkable!

Just about every fighter will have their fighting computer just shut down for a moment or two when they are rocked like Smith was. Unfreakingbelievable that he had the instincts and heart to throw that punch. Even without that superb ending that fight was entertaining as hell.

I have to admit I kinda thought Smith was a chump coming into this, but boy did I misread him. He didn't look like much on the show. He's got big time guts and major punching power. I'd really like to see him again.

Lutter sure had a walk. Din Thomas could make some waves at 155. He's huge at that class.

Probably the friendliest match of all time as well, with both competitors hugging and high-fiving as they pounded the hell out of eachother!

< Romy >
THAT'S RIDICULOUS. YOU'RE THE RHODA. YOU'RE THE JEWISH ONE.

< Michele >
OH, MY GOD. I'M TALKING CUTENESS-WISE, OKAY ? AND CUTENESS-
WISE, I'M THE MARY.

< Romy >
THAT'S CRAZY !
YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF THAT YOU'RE CUTER !

< Michele >
OH, PROOF ? YOU WANT PROOF ?
OKAY, FINE. WHO LOST THEIR VIRGINITY FIRST ?

< Romy >
OH, BIG WOW !
WITH YOUR COUSIN BARRY... I WOULDN'T BRAG ABOUT IT.

This exchange is funnier than anything in "The Maltese Falcon" in my estimation.
