Adam and Camilla growing old and being happy together seems to be Diane's worst nightmare.

To answer your question from the other thread, things have improved a great deal since the last time I talked to you. And I can't wait for my break next week.

11. Just went for a drive |

on a gorgeous fall LA evening!
Ended up in Malibu, sipping a peppermint-mocha latte while breathing in crisp, cool, ocean air.
Did I mention how much I love it here? ;)

8. No, they were Betty/Diane's parents. |
|
She killed herself because she couldn't live up to their expectations, among other things.
Remember the elderly couple at the airport early in the film? They seem like helpful strangers to Betty/Diane, but that and 2/3rds of the entire movie is Betty/Diane's hallucination -- they are actually her parents.

9. What evidence do you have for this theory? |
|
I know it's the conventional wisdom about the film, but nowhere else in the film does she seem to worry about her parents' expectations. They also seem too old to be her parents.

10. I think I read it somewhere. |
|
Also, Naomi Watts is in her 30s, and assuming she played a similar character, it's feasible that they could be her parents.
The first 2/3rds of the film is her hallucination, since we later see Rita and the director hooking up and Betty/Diane's reaction to it. Also, the dinner party near the end where Betty/Diane is ignored lends plausibility to this.
