I loved The Notebook. I typically don't like romantic movies that much, but this one was good.

28. is dead!
The Last Starfighter is dead. Nothing can stop us now!!!

The only problem I had with it is that he should have done more star-fighting before using death-blossom. Another two minutes of star battle would have made him more of a starfighter instead of a guy relying on a fancy new weapon.

138. Yep!
The first time I watched Fritz was under the influence of some very powerful purple microdot acid. I didn't remember much, so I watched it again the next day with a (relatively) clear head. I thought it was kinda cheesy, but fun. Even though it's far from a cinematic masterpiece, I still like to watch it from time to time. Reminds me of all the fun I had in my mis-spent youth.

17. Red Dawn
Edited on Sun Nov-12-06 01:58 PM by Downtown Hound
Okay, okay, I know it's blatant right wing propaganda, right down to the anti-gun control message snuck into the conversation the Cuban commander was having about being able to track lists of gun ownership in the sporting goods store to the paranoid theory about the leftist guerrillas gaining control of Central America and moving on to the United States next. Yes, this movie is a freeper's wet dream, and I like it. Shoot me.

I recognize the extreme fallacies being presented in the movie about how and why the United States could be invaded. But I like the movie's take on the struggle against oppression. The Russians and the Cubans in this movie could really be anyone. The Nazis. The Americans in Iraq, The Republicans here at home. To me the theme of resistance is universal, and I like how the movie shows that, even if the specifics of it are complete garbage.

46. Funny thing is back then, it was Freeper fantasy.
Now it's a parallel to reality on two different levels. The invasion of THIS country came not from paratrooping Russians and Cubans, but through election fixing fascists and a compliant whore media.

As for the "wolverines", look at the "insurgents" in Iraq and tell me it ain't the same damn thing. Which is pretty much what the Cuban colonel in the movie said, given his (backstory) experiences in Angola, El Salvador or where ever.

60. Did you know that the operation that captured Saddam Hussein
was labeled, "Operation Red Dawn?" Apparently the irony of that was lost on whomever decided to name it that, given that we were the invading army. But personally I think it was almost a prophecy of how our invasion of Iraq would turn out.

64. Conan's actually a really good movie
think about how sparse the dialogue is and how well the story is told even with so little dialogue.

I also like RH:PoT and most Trek... but then, I've got a bit of a Trek thing and...I'm not great at telling good movies from bad.

It's got to be pretty bad for me to notice...like the acting in Dungeons and Dragons :puke: That was so bad, even I noticed.

Looks like we're on the same wave length. Many of the films I enjoy are labeled 'escapist fare'. Well ok, but given the nature of reality, once in awhile I need to take a break.

Consequence-free sex, drinking, pot smoking. Did I mention there was no plot? The movie just begins, is, then, a little while later, ends. Sublime!

129. I love that movie- so many good quotes too:
Shelby: I would rather have thirty minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special.

Truvy: Louie brought his new girlfriend over, and the nicest thing I can say about her is all her tattoos are spelled correctly.

M'Lynn: I find it amusing. Men are supposed to be made out of steel or something. I just sat there. I just held Shelby's hand. There was no noise, no tremble, just peace. Oh god. I realize as a woman how lucky I am. I was there when that wonderful creature drifted into my life and I was there when she drifted out. It was the most precious moment of my life.

and...

Shelby: Well, we went skinny dipping and we did things that frightened the fish.

59. I'm embarrassed to say I liked "Titanic" when I saw it in the theater. But now,
I can't imagine sitting through it. I thought the special effects in it were expertly done, and the whole grand production of it was impressive. The building of the ship, the costumes, the sounds, the sinking itself, all the details. I remember not liking a lot of lines in the script, like Kathy Bates sitting on a raft or something, looking at the ship about to go down and saying, "Now that's something you just don't see every day" or some inane remark. On the big screen, the specacle of it all was impressive, but on TV, where the story is more dominant, forget it. I won't sit through it again.

I like the comedy movie Bedazzled, with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley. Hey, it's funny. Fairly stupid, but funny. Brendan Fraser plays about 6 different characters, all funny in different ways. Plus he is HOT! As is Elizabeth Hurley, who wears a large number of tight or short red leather outfits as the Devil.
