Should I tell my grandfather about this site?
He lost his wife (my grandmother) in June. He is 90 years old, with arthritis and other health problems, and doesn't get out much. He has had a computer for a few years despite being what he terms "a horse and buggy man". He just got DSL.
He has been a life long Democrat. He has strongly disliked Reagan, the Bush clan, and their associates. He feels strongly about environmental issues and worker protection and rights.
I don't see him often since he live in different states. I was going to email him today though and thought about telling him about DU.
My reservations about this are that he'll recognize me on this site and see some of the things that I posted that I'd rather have hime not see. The other one is that I remember how worked up he got watching the evening news. I don't want him to have a heart attack or stroke by getting into some of the threads.

3. He has learned a lot about computers these last few years
He seems to know enough about them to fully use email, the internet, and digital imaging.

10. Am well and happy
and recovering from a nasty fall on the sidewalk...banged up knees pretty badly and felt like an old woman and a little kid all at the same time :eyes: Am going to doc tomorrow to have left knee checked out as it's not recovering well.

Other than that, am in a new home with a swimming pool, my son is my landlord, and am just around the corner from my two beautiful grandchildren! :woohoo:

11. Whoa! I'm sorry about your fall.
I really hope the doctor can help you. I broke my knee (clean tib-fib break right at the top of the bones) in a go-cart wreck during Christmas holidays 2002, and, while I'm back to walking pretty normally, cold days or changes in pressure make me ache and hobble a little bit.

So take care of yourself and just make sure that you certainly don't have any breaks and that your doctor attends to it properly.

Other than that, though, you sound like you have perfect living arrangements! A pool, and the grandkids? Does it get much better than that?!

I'll :woohoo: with you! :D

12. Left knee that I blew out in '83
Edited on Sun Nov-12-06 01:09 PM by Whoa_Nelly
had fixed in '92...have about 1/4 of patella left there. I did the ice, compress, elevate and rest thing for 24 hours, and while the bruise on that knee is more brown (old/dead blood?)it's kind of warm like a possible infection. Am glad am going to doc to have it checked out. Could be that it's just a major contusion that will take about 4 weeks or so to completely heal. (fingers crossed)

My life is back to normal...has been for a good long while.

Merh and 'rat definitely need prayers, though.

9. Well, if you are worried he might see your posts....
then maybe don't post anything that could give away your identity or anything "sensitive"
If he doesn't donate, he can't search anyways. ;) (just kidding!!)

Have him sign up, it could be fun for him!!! :D

15. Hey, Nikia! Life's too short to keep the fun to yourself :-D
Hoipe you do share DU with him and he does decide to join in! If anything, you will have given him a gift that he can do with as he wishes, and hopefully, some added daily enjoyment in his life. :hi:
