Rant: It was "Achievement Day" at my DD's horseback riding club.
And Mommy* Is Pissed!

DD is 20. She is mentally handicapped and has been riding in a club for the mentally and physically handicapped for about 13 years or so. 26 Sundays a year we have these lessons for a total cost of $750.00 per rider. Plus we have to do a whole whack of volunteer work and bring refreshments. Not a problem. We can deal with all of that.

We have a whole row of trophies from previous Achievement Days. The riders love getting trophies - just like their siblings do in other activities. They are so proud of them!

This year - guess what the "Award" was?

A trophy? Nope.

A ribbon? Nope.

It was a tiny 3/4 inch election type pin with the logo and initials of the club on it that cost no more than 25 cents.

I am not impressed at all.

*The Mommy Tiger comes out when my kids get shortchanged.

2. Wow. That's crappy if you ask me.
My son Sergio, who will be 2 in March and has Down Syndrome, goes to a school that specialized in early intervention. Each year, they have a parents evening where we watch a video spanning
the significant events of previous year which we all get copies of, have a great dinner, and then the children have a "graduation" ceremony. It costs us absolutely nothing. You're being much more civil than I would, I'll tell you that much.

3. Go get her one of her own.
If you can afford, go to a trophy shop and have one made.
Can't believe they did that.

4. Thanks, everyone.
I may just go get her a trophy on my own. Thanks for the suggestion.
