Your worst credit card company? MBNA for me.
It was about 15-16 years ago when the kids were young and sick. This was in the days before a co-pay and everything had to be paid up front. One daughter had kidney and bladder infections that would not heal and had lab and office visits several times a week, medications and two outpatient admissions in two months. We were drowning with the bills. Got behind on the credit cards (thankfully no longer owe on those bloodsuckers). Did the proactive thing and called them, tried to work out a payment plan. The absolute worst one was MBNA. I would work out a plan and would dutifully mail the $100 they wanted or whatever with that being the amount monthly I would pay as per our agreement, then a few days later, after getting that payment, they would call and hassle me relentlessly, saying they needed more right then. The time they screamed at my 10-year-old to tell me to quit nursing the baby and get on the phone just sent me over the edge. I wrote them a letter and told them about my collection experiences with them and that when I came out of this I would never do business with them again. And I haven't. Of course they never wrote back. We have excellent credit and as I knew we would we climbed out of that slump, but I wish nothing but ill for that company.

1. Chase.
I got a credit card when I was under 18 and off at college. It was a joint account with my father. I rarely used it. Eventually, decided to cancel the card. I got nothing, but the run around. One person would say that he had to call, then he would call and they would say that I needed to call, etc. (I lived 800 miles away). Eventually, I got the account canceled . . . or so I thought. About 5 years later, I'm reviewing my credit report and notice that the account is listed as still active. At this point, I didn't have a card, hadn't received any correspondence from Chase in 5 years. I called and yep the f'ing account was still open. Given the same run around about him calling, me calling. I think it's canceled for real now.

3. Apparently they didn't think MBNA sucked enough ass on their own
...Because BOA infinitely sucks more ass than any other banking institution on this planet. Or possibly even Hell, though I'll have to check with Satan to verify that.

15. They are such bastards.
I just went round and round with the MBNA/BOA last night. I have had one of their cards for 14 years, never been late with a payment and that jacked my interest to a dizzying amount. :grr: I told them that they were racketeers and that at least Tony Soprano was charming! :grr:

4. What is MBNA? My worst is Capital one.
I missed a couple of payments 2 years ago and now am paying 27% interest. I'm dumping them soon. I'm finally getting the money to pay-off and close.

6. I have Capital One and do not care what the interest rate may be
since I pay off my balance each month. Because of this they consider me to be a deadbeat. Last month I did have trouble with my Cap One card when it wouldn't work. It turned out that they deactivated my card without telling me and when I called they reactivated it. Of course, the woman I spoke with from India had no clue as to why my card had been deactivated, but she was very sorry for the inconvenience. Capital One does have some entertaining tv commercials though.

5. Wachovia- falsely claimed late payments
About 1995 my then wife and I had a Wachovia credit card account. I dutifully paid 150% of the requested payment every month. At one point Wachovia starts claiming that we had not made our payments on time and our interest rate would be raised from 12% to 22% and charges added.

As luck would have it I was an early user of automated bill payments with Wells Fargo and had that payment scheduled to go out early every month. It turned out that Wachovia had been cashing the checks and THEN claiming the payment had arrived late. Every time I called Wells Fargo to deal with this the customer service people knew exactly what I was talking about.

I haven't had a credit card since. I also do my best to pay my bills with a bank bill payment system since I discovered how easy it is for a company to simply claim they did not recieve your payment.

Consider credit cards to be plasitc cocaine and treat them with appropriate caution.

11. On the other side of the spectrum
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 03:48 AM by Art_from_Ark
I have a major credit card from a national store chain in Japan. Every time I use the card at their store, I get points that I can use as coupons to get a discount on my total purchase. On certain days, I get 10 points for every 100 yen (dollar) spent. When I use the card for purchases elsewhere, I can get points that I can redeem for gift certificates from that store. When I go back to the States, I get certain types of insurance coverage automatically, just by having that card. And there's no annual fee.

12. MBNA sucks
We have excellent credit when we decided to apply for one of their air miles cards. (I think)

They ended up sending us the wrong card (maybe a cash back one?), so they told us to cut that card up & then re-apply online and they'd make sure to send us the right one this time.

So, we did as they asked, but then when it came time to get the card, they denied us a new card, saying we had applied for their credit card too often.

We decided they weren't for us if they were that stupid.

13. Why I canceled my card
MBNA Corp
MBNA Corp is the nation’s top credit card company and one of the world’s biggest finance companies. The company was also the biggest campaign contributor to the Bush-Cheney ticket during the 2000 election cycle and has been one of the Republican Party’s most generous contributors over the last decade. For the last five years, MBNA has been pressing lawmakers to pass legislation that would make it harder for individuals to file bankruptcy—a bill that, if approved, stands to earn MBNA at least $100 million in additional revenues each year, according to press reports. The bank also has lobbied against legislation to protect consumer privacy rights and was a leading proponent of banking deregulation.

14. Probably MBNA....
My ex ran up 15 grand with various credit cards, and I got saddled with half of it in the divorce. MBNA were being a bunch of little bitches, so I transferred the balance to another card (Providian). I'm down to only a couple thousand relvolving debt, and MBNA is sending me 4 to 5 applications each week. I have been writing various messages on the envelopes, ranging from cryptic to nasty, and sending them back. Hopefully, they'll get the message soon.
