When I start dating again, should I date progressive?

My ex-fiance was a pretty hardcore conservative, and I have to admit it did cause some friction. However, I think the friction was more due to other relationship problems than just political ideology. I must say, she absolutely hated the attention I gave my political involvement.

My feeling is that a good match is probably going to be close to you ideologically, but it's your decision what differences are and aren't acceptable. I've never had a political litmus test, but I decided ages ago (okay it was a bit over a year, whatever) not to date non-vegans and that pretty much means my whole dating pool is radically left so it's a non-issue. But I'm all in favor of ideological tests for dates if they're important enough to you that you couldn't be happy with somebody otherwise.

5. I won't say it's impossible to date a Republican

because I have. Actually was engaged to one a few years back. And what broke us up wasn't politics. But if you're thinking about dating one of the 29% who still believes in Chimpy, who the Hell needs headaches like that? Now a "recovering Republican", that's different. You could be the one who helps her realize the truth.
