The point of them is to share info that mainstream rags don't care about, so there's really no money in them - if there were profit to be made from their content, mainstream rags would be covering the stuff. You'll find a lot of devoted 'zine publishers working the night shift at Kinko's so as to easily steal the copying they need but can't afford. Except for a brief explosion in popularity in the mid 1990s, 'zines are unprofitable almost by definition.
