Homosexuality and Heavy Metal
Aight, in keeping with the heavy metal threads here, I'll post about something I've been thinking about.

It's my belief that it is not showtunes that is the perfect music for gays, but heavy metal. Think about it. What's the music of outsiders? Heavy metal. And who is quite possibly the most "outside" group of people today? Homosexuals.

The only problem of course is the audience. With the exception of Tool fans, most of the heavy metal base is comprised of morons who call absolutely everything under the sun "gay". This is, IMO, the only thing that is fully preventing heavy metal to be fully embraced by the gay community.

Of course there has been progress. I don't need to mention Rob Halford. Hardcore band Trivium has listed "homophobia" as one of its problems in their song "Ignition", and recent Eurovision contest winner Lordi has said they fully welcome gay fans.

This comes from experience of course. I myself am a bisexual college kid and I've always liked heavy metal. And of course going to a Christian school I really didn't fit in all that well

Some might disagree with me, but I think it's a good hypothesis

My husband is a dj of 16 years. I am a dancer. He djs gentleman's clubs, regular clubs, country bars and raves.
We know a lot of music. A LOT.
(no snide remarks about Nickleback from anyone, that's a personal taste!)

He's also been involved with the gay community quite often, although is straight in sexual orientation.

NO offense, but you are narrowing the focus of metal in quite the wrong way. It is really a broad and inclusive genre, expanding every day and in many directions. It would take me all day to explain; but don't worry -many people of all orientations are in their music space in many ways.

Husband just dj'd a Halloween goth rave with metal and goth bands. Two guitarists hit on him mercilessly. He taped it for me. You would never have known a thing to look at them, if one were into assumptions.

Please, no major offense, (but people always seem to); but you need to live a little and get some more life experience under your belt before you can really pose this hypothesis with any real certainty.

And gay people really don't have a "music style"; culture just assumes they do. Please, don't fall into the trap of compartmentalizing them like that; it's just exactly what causes problems in the first place.

18. Sorry, but Nickelback can be scientifically proven to be suck ass
Sorry, but Nickelback can be scientifically proven to be suck-ass. Gay ass or otherwise is irrelvant. If Nickelback is still your taste after this link, then your taste sucks more ass than Nickelback. Of course, that's just MY taste in music, and it IS a catchy tune...

5. What about queercore?
A little less metal, a little more punk. But it's more along the lines you're suggesting.

10. I think punk is starting to take hold among gay audiences.
Two friends of mine from high school who were complete punkers (mohawk and everything) were gay.

Otherwise, I would say it doesn't really matter. People listen to what they like.

15. I've always enjoyed rock of all styles
I particularly like heavy metal and alternative. I have NIN's "Closer" playing right now as a matter of fact. However I don't think my being a lesbian has anything to do with it. I like some classical, trance, dance, pop, "easy listening" and other genres too. The categories I dislike, overall, include country, bluegrass, show tunes and opera.

I don't think gays/lesbians can be pigeonholed any more than other groups can, nor should they be.
