16. Where do all the hippies meet?
South Street! South Street!

Mmmm...I'm dreaming of a Copa Marguerita right now (did you ever hear the rumor that Copa put "drugs" in them???!!!)

Although that wasn't my hangout, I have spent many happy hours in Pearl Arts. It's like a candy store for Arts/Crafts folks.

2. The Shores Madrid Theater in St. Clair Shores, Michigan.
Don't have a pic, medium sized independent movie theater. Saw The Blob, Goldfinger...spent almost every Saturday afternoon there for 7 years.

3. Rich's Dept. Store in downtown Atlanta, especially at Christmas!
:D :bounce: That was the most fun department store ever! And at Christmas, they had a monorail ride for kids called the Pink Pig. All the cool kids got to ride it, and I was one of them!!! :woohoo: I rode it repeatedly each year because it was so much fun. My best friend (still today) and I made sure we rode it over and over...

5. The stock tank near our house
It was private property, but we cobbled together a raft
and took to the high seas. It all ended when the land
owner pointed a shotgun at us and told us to "git off
his propity".

8. Carroll Shelby's sports car dealership
Shelby was associated with a sports car dealership off Greenville behind the Dr. Pepper plant. We used to ride our bikes over and look at the exotic cars until we were thrown out.

9. Cap'n Bullfrog's Music in Brattleboro, Vermont
They sold records (this was the 70's), instruments, stereo equipment and there was a head shop upstairs. I made friends with the owners and spent a lot of time sitting in the office smoking dope and watching the other customers through the one way glass. Good times!

12. Big Dismal Sink Hole. Just outside of Tallahassee, FL
Pass some great cow pastures :hippie: on the way.

The pic does not do it justice.

Big Dismal is a large sink with 100 foot step walls that plunge staight down to the water level. You don't want to fall off the edge. The sink reaches depths to over 100 feet. There is a large cavern at 80 feet that turns into a very long cave passage. Recently an expedition has linked this passage to another sinkhole nearly 3/4 mile away. The location is closed to swimming and is now operated as a U.S. Forrestry park called Leon Sinks. You will also hear running water the entire time you're there. This is caused by water filtering down through the Limestone rock and hitting the surface layer of the sink. Visually impressive site to see even though you can't dive it.

14. Pool Halls
I learned how to hustle pool for pocket money. Also learned how to smoke cigarettes and dope. I remember this crappy jukebox in the corner of the hall blasting Aerosmith's Walk This Way as I sunk a winner one time. The guy wanted to kill me because I was just a punk kid (13) and he was a biker. The owner finally pulled him off me and made him pay up. Yeah that was so great. Memories......

17. The Ben Franklin (5&10) or any local woods
God, we were bad at a young age. Told my mother I'd be at the local pizza joint. She said she drove by and "didn't see my bike there".

I said: "well, actually, I was sitting in the middle of a corn field, smoking marijuana" :eyes:

"Don't you be sarcastic with me young lady!"

Well, actually it was the God's honest truth, but okay.....

19. riding down the Santa Ana River trail to the beach
I still get a sweeping, delicious nostalgia whenever I smell the odor of an oil refinery - I can't help it. There's one right on the beach at Newland, and I went right by it every time I rode down there. I also liked to climb down the concrete bank and touch the mussels.

I'd sit in the sand and watch the waves. If Jack's was open, I'd get some strips & salsa (what's now just called hot sauce).

It was freedom. I did it as often as I could.

Lakeside Pool, Lakeside Roller Rink, Russell's 5-and-10 (great place for Halloween stuff), Humphrey's Store (a tiny shop that was a great place to get candy), Warehouse Market (great trading cards and the only place in town that sold Yum-Yums), Sterling 5-and-10 (fruit-filled chocolate bars from Finland-- only 10 cents each), Boy's Club, Victory Theater (25-cent matinees).

Now all but the Lakeside Pool are defunct

28. Depends where we were living...
When we lived in Alabama, there was a gym on base where we used to hang out. There was a big, grassy hill right next to it with billboard on it.

When we lived in Frankfurt, it changed. Soccer field in the summer, Dairy Queen during the school year and the Officer's Club or the PX on the weekend.

When I moved here...the library at school.
