3. Hee, hee. Funny, but true story.
When my son was an infant, I bathed him in one of those little baby tubs on the counter in the bathroom.

Well, this particular day, I was standing in the doorway with a cup of coffee while my husband bathed him.

The kid peed up and over his head behind himself and into my coffee cup.

How's that for a pee story?

I'm still marveling at his aim.

His aim as a toddler? Well let's just say it had gotten worse.

43. I posted something about this further up the thread to you
That's why in my house, the men (and the boy) are required to pee sitting on the toilet with their peepee firmly pointed down. If they choose to pee standing up in the public toilets, that's fine but not in a bathroom I share with them.

31. fI had a friend who became a mother for the first time at 38.
It was an adjustment. She visited with the new baby and was so proud of herself, dispensing advice about nursing, naptime, etc. Well, baby boy wet his diaper so she laid him on the carpet to change him. He was fresh and clean in a minute, but no fresh diaper was forthcoming. I asked her why not. "My pediatrician said to let him air dry." I nodded sagely and waited for the inevitable. Sure enough, within a minute he'd peed all over himself. My friend laughed and went through the cleaning process again. Again with the air dry, and again the little sonofagun peed all over himself. This time a clean diaper was quickly applied. I never said a word, but it was so funny to watch! What the heck was the pediatrician thinking?

42. Whether he'll post about it is under question
but without proper guidance and very possibly even with such guidance, it will happen within the first six months. Boys do aim and fire. They are really quite accurate as babies. I wonder why they get so inaccurate as they get older?

BTW, I'm a labor and delivery nurse and I try to warn every new parent of a baby boy to not get suckered into that one but I know it's pretty much a wasted effort.

When mommy changes him, she has a diaper open and waiting. My poor hubby never seems to learn and gets hosed down pretty regularly.

19. I'll repost my tips. CONGRATS!!!
Some tips (the best of the ones I got)

1. have 300 diapers ON HAND from day one. This is the single best tip you will ever get.

2. fighting is normal everyone does it but no one mentions it on the run up. You will probably play the role of careless slacker she will boil the pacifier every time it hits the floor.

3. you can't spoil the baby with love

4. freaking out about it breathing or not breathing is normal

5. the first month SUCKS...to high heaven. This thing will not stop crying. Just remember that you aren't the first and you won't be the last to do this and there are lots of other guys and gals standing next to the running dryer (white noise) at 3 AM. They love white noise-dryer, vaccum (be weary if you have cats or close neighbors), sound machines.

6.Look into one of those swinging chair things-they are great.

7. have a towel on the back of your favorite chair-it makes a great pillow when holding the baby for you that is.

Rule #1 Don't drop the baby
Rule #2 DO NOT drop the baby
Rule # 3 no honey (in the first year it can cause botulism in them)
Rule #4 Beware of dingos
Rule #5 Nobady puts baby in the corner

BTW commander bunnypants is expecting around Christmas.

66. About #5 - if you have a child with extremely sensitive hearing like mine
the heater kicking on will wake them up! I am not joking. We tried everything that everyone suggested - white noise machines, heartbeat bears, you name it. Turns out her hearing is so sensitive that she NEEDS absolute quiet to fall asleep.

I didn't sleep for six weeks until I figured that one out.

It's better now, but she is four. ;)

58. Yep, I think that's best
But then, we also need to figure out logistics. I think we need to use someone who lives close to them as the point person. And actually, probably gift certificates to various baby like places might be in order, though the image of the Skinners receiving 5000+ diapers from DUers is awfully amusing!

We should (translate that to "you should" since it's your idea) post this as a separate thread and see if it takes hold. It will likely take hold.

73. As someone with a 6 month old son, I can say that gift cards to Babies R Us
would probably be the best way to go. It may seem impersonal, but it really does suck returning 8 of the same things because people don't pay attention to a registry.

If gift cards are out, I say we go the practical route: get a baby tub and fill it with necessities: baby wash, I *HIGHLY* recommend Boudreaux's Butt Paste, baby nail clippers, etc...

And something nice for mommy :)

56. I have a PayPal account.
I didn't have any trouble when we collected money for Andy's flowers, although I know there are posters here who despise PayPal.

Basically, I could set up an email address, something like Skinnerbaby@emaildomain.com and then when people logged onto PayPal, they could enter the email address and donate however much they wanted to.

I have purchased a ton of stuff via PayPal, including thousands of dollars in furniture and haven't had any trouble, but I know other people feel differently.

I'd be happy to do it if you want. I could contact EarlG and Elad and see what they think.
