Like, Adolph, for instance.

1. I was disappointed to find out the cutie I had my eye on
was named Ralph.

But I got over it.

On of my friends in Pittsburgh told me about a family where all the firstborns had always been named Adolph, and WWII wasn't going to stop THAT proud tradition - they're still calling their firstborns Adolph.

Used to go out there for the week between Christmas and New Year.

Always took me a few days to get used to the damned accent.

I just don't think I could do it. Then again, I once fell in love with a man named Morten. It sounds okay in Norwegian, but there's just no way to make it sound cute in English. I called him "Mort" and it was still painful.

12. I lived through that in college
hung around with a guy named Pat, so we were "Pat & Pattie"

Peole LOVED it: "hey hey hey! Pat & Pattie!!!"

I couldn't stand it. But we weren't dating, we were just buddies, so we couldn't really "break up", so we had to deal with it.

26. I don't think a name matters once..
you get to know the person, but there are some definite names that turn you off immediately, or at least conjur a negative image in your head.

Names like Wilbur, Herman, Harvey, Gilbert, or Virgil...make me think of old men.

Ezekiel, Ephraim , Josiah or other fairly obscure biblical names make me think of right wing fundies.

Stuart, Norman, or Harold makes me think of those incredibly odd, pimply faced boys in my class that spent a lot of time playing dungeons and dragons, and always seemed to have sinus problems.

Trendy names like Cody, Austin, or Dallas tend to turn me off, as well as names like Chase,Grayland, and Garret because it always makes me think of those overpriveleged jock bullies.

I lean towards simple names like Dan, Jack, Tom etc.
I don't think there's any one name that would be a deal breaker for me.
maybe Thor. I knew a girl one time who dated a guy named Thor. Everytime she said his name, I laughed. I'm still laughing. Thor.
At any rate, I'm happily married so it doesn't really matter now, does it?

31. But if middle name is Wayne, better run for the hills..... NOW !!
The Classic Middle Name

It only occurred to me in the early 1990s that "Wayne" was a popular middle name among a few of the most heinous murderers of our time, e.g., the clown John Wayne Gacy (who killed almost three dozen boys and young men in the late 1970s and buried most of them beneath the floorboards of his Des Plaines, Ill., home) and Elmer Wayne Henley (sentenced to six consecutive life terms in 1974 in Houston for his role, with ringleader Dean Allen Corll, in the murders of 27 young men). I began to publish periodic lists in 1996, and soon readers made sure I never missed a one that made the news.

This is a mighty impressive (so to speak) group, and below is an alpha listing.

55. Not a deal breaker, but...
I really hate cutesy names for men: Dylan, Jordan, Brandon, etc. Those type of names are a little too precious. I wonder what their parents were thinking. (OT, I did date a Brandon who was perfectly nice. He was even fine with the fact that I only called him by his last name. Unfortunately, we looked a lot alike and people kept asking whether we were twins-- too creepy.)

Also, I won't acknowledge the "y" sound at the end of an otherwise fine name: TimmY, JimmY, TommY, etc. :P
