It's been 10 years since I rode Greyhound for a girl
....And I'm doing it again next weekend. She's driving this way for some Thanksgiving, then we're headed over to her end of the state to hang out with her friends.

Then the mighty bus back here on Sunday.

Ten years ago, I would ditch classes and travel nine hours on Greyhound to visit my sweetie at the time. Pretty often, one spring. I got quite good at it.

Now, oddly enough, another woman and another Greyhound plan. More oddly, she has the same name as the last woman I rode for.

Even more oddly, it doesn't feel like backsliding. :) Ever ride the red-white-and-blue for a sweetie?

1. I took a 20+hr Greyhound ride,
NYC to Duluth MN once, to see someone I was smitten with. Unfortunately it was during a Greyhound strike, and was a nightmare journey and much longer than it shoulda been. Of course, once my feet hit the ground again and I saw her smile, discomfort was instantly forgotten.... It was only a long-weekend trip, but we went canoe-camping in the boundary lakes between MN and Canada. Priceless!

29. No scab here...I was just a customer.
And bus was unavoidable because of the $ diff with any other way of traveling.

rug, are you snarking on my fond recollection with some presumed organized-labor thing??

:shrug:

31. No. Here's some lyrics to go along with the memory.
AMERICA

"Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together"
"I've got some real estate here in my bag"
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies
And we walked off to look for America

"Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now"
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America

Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said "Be careful his bowtie is really a camera"

"Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat"
"We smoked the last one an hour ago"
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field

"Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all gone to look for America
All gone to look for America
All gone to look for America

I used to take the bus back and forth from Boston to Providence every weekend to see my boyfriend at the time. I should have stayed in Boston studying. :banghead:

6. Your post reminded me of the Oleta Adams song....
Get Here
Recorded By: Oleta Adams

You can reach me by railway, you can reach me by trailway
You can reach me on an airplane, you can reach me with your mind
You can reach me by caravan, cross the desert like an Arab man
I don't care how you get here, just - get here if you can

You can reach me by sail boat, climb a tree and swing rope to rope
Take a sled and slide down the slope, into these arms of mine
You can jump on a speedy colt, cross the border in a blaze of hope
I don't care how you get here, just - get here if you can

There are hills and mountains between us
Always something to get over
If I had my way, surely you would be closer
I need you closer

(interlude, then repeat bridge)

You can windsurf into my life, take me up on a carpet ride
You can make it in a big balloon, but you better make it soon
You can reach me by caravan, cross the desert like an Arab man
I don't care how you get here, just - get here if you can

I don't care how you get here, just -- get here if - you can.

14. Your post reminded me of Wheels on the Bus
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
round and round,
round and round.
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
all through the town.

The wipers on the bus go Swish, swish, swish;
Swish, swish, swish;
Swish, swish, swish.
The wipers on the bus go Swish, swish, swish,
all through the town.

The horn on the bus goes Beep, beep, beep;
Beep, beep, beep;
Beep, beep, beep.
The horn on the bus goes Beep, beep, beep,
all through the town..

The money on the bus goes, Clink, clink, clink;
Clink, clink, clink;
Clink, clink, clink.
The money on the bus goes, Clink, clink, clink,
all through the town.

The Driver on the bus says "Move on back,
move on back, move on back;"
The Driver on the bus says "Move on back",
all through the town.

The baby on the bus says "Wah, wah, wah;
Wah, wah, wah;
Wah, wah, wah".
The baby on the bus says "Wah, wah, wah",
all through the town.

The mommy on the bus says "Shush, shush, shush;
Shush, shush, shush;
Shush, shush, shush."
The mommy on the bus says "Shush, shush, shush"
all through the town.

24. Never for a sweetie
But I've taken my share of long bus rides - the longest being from Watsonville, California to Brattleboro, Vermont. That one got me smoking cigarettes again. ~sigh~

It would be much more pleasant if I knew there was someone special at the other end. Have a great holiday, Robb. :hi:

geez I can't keep up with the way language changes. "ride greyhound for a girl"? "it doesn't feel like backsliding"? "ever ride the red-white-and-blue"?

well, anyway :toast:

I have very found memories :)

We'd get to his place in Astoria, Queens and go to the best diner. Then we'd run to his place and have outrageous sex:D
