And there's not a damned thing you can do about it.

3. Is that not the most inane bunch of tripe you've ever seen?
I'll probably never sleep well again. Those evil breast nightmares are terrible!

4. Why is this such a controversial topic?
It seems like the debate comes down to: "Damn it, I have the right to display my child sucking milk from a body part of mine," v. "Nipples! Ahhhhhhhh!"

5. You just summed it up.
I fall into the first camp on the matter, even though I never intend to have kids.

6. because of the evil, horrible boobies
One time I accidentally saw a woman's boob at the beach, and I had to wash my eyes out with listerine to make sure my brain didn't melt from the shock of seeing such a thing.

And can you imagine how traumatic it would be for a child to see a human breast. I shudder to think. They might make drawings like this:

or this:

7. For me it's not the topic...
It's the waste of thought, emotion and pure bandwidth.

It's a little nauseating to see that much waste. Hell, I don't personally care if someone breastfeeds their SPOUSE on the plane. I just deplore the waste.

Let's see how long this goes before my handle changes to "Name Removed."

13. I never actually wrote on it....
I did this one:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2722764&mesg_id=2722764

as a form of protest against massive waste of bandwidth.

Pearls before swine, so to speak.

17. Yes. If there is one thing that DOES offend me about this...
it's how long some of these women breastfeed their children. I heard 6-9 months is the general cutoff point. But some women breastfeed their TODDLERS. I once witnessed a woman hoist what must have been a 3 or 4 year-old boy up to her chest for breastfeeding. She really struggled to lift him into position because THE KID WAS 3 OR 4 YEARS-OLD, A'RIGHT???

But otherwise, I really could care less about public breastfeeding.

22. 22 months.
I don't care one way or the other really, I mean, It's not my Kid, Boob, or offended sense of repression.

I just deplore the waste of space while the country and people are dying. What is it? The distraction factor? I have no clue.

23. The AAP guideline is one year minimum, the WHO ays two.
Six months is when kids can safely start getting solids. If they wean before a year they have to get formula instead, because they can't get all their nutrition from solids.

28. Hmmm...
my little niece was nursed for no more than 9 months or so, and she's a-okay. Actually a rather brilliant little girl. I think I'm going to use the same tactic as my sister.

I think I'd consider those as GUIDELINES that I'd prefer not to follow.

25. Well, personally, I don't care if the kid asks mom for a nip while walking down the aisle.
It's none of my business how long someone chooses to breastfeed.

29. Of course.
When I witnessed the toddler (at the National Gallery in DC, of all places) I just sat back and thought to myself, "WTF?" It really looked odd. A few more inches on that kid (maybe he was particularly tall) it would have looked like a young basketball star on break with his mom during practice.

10. Breast's are just chest's that have the ability to produce milk
What if men could breast feed, would this be such a hot topic? Would that mean they couldn't swim without a top too?  :hide:

12. I'd better avoid that thread.
As someone who breastfed on a plane, I'm just too biased, and there's no way I could approach what must surely be a calm, rational discussion with any objectivity.

21. I'd rather have breastingfeeding on a plane...
then some screaming kid.

I'd be especially upset if the kid was screaming because some pseudo-Victorian era dipshit didn't want a woman breastfeeding on a plane.

if my money is going to be wasted paying for bandwidth for pointless debates like that :eyes:
some people here really need to get over themselves and get on with their lives!
