I'm getting a raise and an assistant
I've posted here that I'm interviewing because my pay has stagnated and my workload has doubled.

I just spoke to my boss and he is definitely trying to keep me. He says that he's definitely giving me a raise as of January 1st, though he's still working out how much of a raise he can get for me. He also says I will have an assistant by then.

I'm still going on interviews and he knows it, but we'll see.

5. Very cool.
But I'm going to keep interviewing until I see if he comes back with enough of a raise.

The first place I'm interviewing is starting their negotiation $10k above what I make now. If I impress them and negotiate well I could end up getting an offer that's significantly higher than that.

I'm not closing any options until I see something I like. :)

9. He knows that one month after I leave
the walls would fall down. Work here is so backlogged that I spend a huge amount of time putting out fires and preventing fall-out. Nobody else is in a position to take over my work without months of training.

Fear of God is right. I'm holding those acts of God at bay.

get the idea they may be losing you?? I went through that a few years ago at my workplace, and it totally changed things for the better from that point forward. 60. It's the second sentence I really like.
Sounds like you're in the driver's seat, and that's a good place to be.
My wife had a similar experience many years ago.
She wasn't especially happy with her job, and got a much better offer out of the blue.
Told her boss about it and the jerk actually laughed.
"Well, if you think you can do any better than here, then by all means..."
"How much notice do you want?"
"Heck, you can clean out your desk at the end of the day."
And so he did.
He thought she was bluffing, but she had the calm confidence of a Christian holding 4 aces.

73. Funny story:
Today, I had an interview near Wall Street for a temp position.

Being fairly new to Manhattan, I got off at 59th so I could take the Green Line. I climbed almost ten flights of stairs, up and down, before I finally found my train, thinking there had to be a shorter way to get there.

Then I got off at my stop and found the street the company was located at. I was looking for the number on the building, but couldn't find it. I finally asked a fruit vendor across the street where that address was. He pointed to the building right in front of us across the street, much to my chagrin.

The elevator was close by, so I got in and pressed the button for my floor. The door didn't close after five seconds, so I thought it was broken. I got out of the elevator, then turned around to see the doors finally close behind me.

I caught the next elevator, then I went up to the floor the company was listed at. They told me the interviewers were on another floor, but that I had to go up a few floors to Reception so they could buzz the interviewers.

Then I went down the elevator to the lobby, crossed the lobby to the other elevator that goes to the other half of the building, then finally found the place I needed to be.

Exhausted and sweating, I shook the interviewers' hands and continued to wipe the sweat from my face throughout the interview, which I'm positive made a good impression.

74. Oh, that's horrible!

I worked for a few years down on Broad street right next door to the Stock Exchange. It was a sweet location because I had a corner office.

I live on Staten Island near the Ferry Terminal so I basically walked to work. Walk to the boat, sit for half an hour, walk to the office.

If the company didn't have such disfunctional senior management I'd probably still be there.

So the point of this tangent to your tangent is that I know that area well. :)

When I got out of the station, I saw an MTA woman nearby. I asked her where the company's street was.

She responded in a thick East European accent, "Fsldjksd."

I said, "Excuse me?"

Then she yells, "FULTON!"

I wanted to say, "Don't get mad at me for no fucking reason," but I was in a hurry and just said, "Thanks." :D

65. All he gave you was a "promise".
For all you know he figures it will take until January 1st to replace you. I am not being cynical, just realistic. I have been lied to like that before.
Go to the interviews and if you get a better offer take it. If anything the interviews will give you a better idea of your worth in the market. Your boss should either give you the raise on your next check or be prepared to lose you.
On a brighter note, he can always hire you back if his offer is right.
