So I have a dog now... *pics*
Her name is Molly and she's 10 years old. We previously had her two weekends a month, just like my stepbro, but now she is all ours. My stepdad's ex-wife was claiming she's incontinent and wanted to put her down. The dog is very housebroken and has no medical issues. Since there was no way we would allow her to be put down, she's now ours. I've made fun of her in the past because she's hyper & dumb, but I like her, even if she's not my "type" of dog.

And here's a gratuitous kitty photo...

18. She is what I call over-affectionate.
I almost don't want to pet her half the time because she'll be stuck to me for at least half an hour.

We've always had dogs were we could pet them and they'd be really excited, but if when we were done, all we needed to say was, "okay, go lay down now" and she'd go away. That doesn't work with this dog.

24.  I know what you mean about pat-hounds...
our Sally had first been with an abusive man, was rescued by a very old man who soon died, and his old son who got sick and had to move to a hospice, then we got her from the SPCA.
She noodles and nudges with her nose to demand more pats. At first I thought she could use a patting machine, and an automatic tennis ball throwing machine, but now she seems to feel secure and a little mellower after three years of being with three people who love her.
Molly will probably relax once she feels very accepted by her new "pack"!

Give her lots of praise and love.

Watch what a super great dog she will become.

I bet she's a hell of a lot smarter than anyone gives
her credit for. Especially if she's been hearing the
'not so nice person' who wanted to put her down
tell her she was "dumb". She bought into that sh*t.

End of lecture.

;-)

Hurray for you, Haruka!

32. Well, she's been our part-time dog for awhile. Now she's a full-time dog here.
The one thing she really needs to learn is that it's okay to put up a bit of a fight against the cats. She's getting her ass kicked. Our cats all grew up with bigger, more aggressive dogs (that they still had under their little paws). Molly is totally scared of our cats and they take total advantage of it.

28. Kudos to you for taking her
I hate people who want to put down perfectly good dogs because they are suddenly inconvenient. I should know - I live with 5 of them myself. One of ours, a greyhound bitch, is hyper too, but boy is she affectionate. I keep threatening to get the door mat that says "Caution - Dog Can't Hold Licker" because of her.

Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 01:18 AM by haruka3_2000
Plus the vet gave her an absolutely clean bill of health. Plus she doesn't chase squirrels or deer. We have a bunch of property, so we just open up the back door and she never leaves the lawn and always comes when called.

43. She sounds like a wonderful dog -
heck, I've got 2 whippets and the best that can be said about one of them is that he only pees in the house a few times a week. They are a breed that either house train very well, or not. I've got one of each. Not to mention that they chase squirrels, birds and each other. They would chase deer, but the yard is fenced in and they can't get out to the deer. You are lucky and a truly nice person.

and good of you, not simply responding to the infatuation of a new and never-met pet. Your sharing you time/space/life with this refugee pup is a kindly thing, and a great karma triple-word-score. Even just a few brief times, I enjoyed doing some cat "foster care" for friends' rescue center. The domesticated critters are our dependents in these times, and it's cool of you to include Molly in with the rest of your clan there. How do doggie and your scaly friends---los lizards---get along?
:hi:

35. Well, the lizards and the dogs don't really interact.
Molly doesn't really come in my bedroom because Midnight (the "scary" cat) hangs out in here. The lizards mostly live in their cages, with the exception of Raoul Duke who has gone on extended vacations loose in my room.

Three of the cats are fine with Molly (although Molly is scared of them). Midnight hates Molly, but Midnight hates all animals. In her "perfect" world, she would only interact with me on a regular basis and no other creature.

40. My stepdad's ex-wife claims she's incontinent. That's why.
I've had the dog for the last few weeks, and we had her regularly over the summer. This dog has never had an accident here and our vet said the dog is in exceptional health for her age.

So either she's lying (likely) or the dog's smarter than I thought and peeing on my stepdad's ex-wife.

That could be! Sometimes a pet has an accident because nobody has walked them for a while, or they get nervous or scared, and people mistake it for "incontinence."

Either way, she's lucky to have found you!
