Why do people need monster speakers in their cars and deafening noise? |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 08:50 PM by undeterred
Is it so they can annoy entire neighborhoods and ensure they don't hear anything outside their vehicles?

Self-validation, most likely |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 08:29 PM by LanternWaste
Self-validation, most likely. "Look at me-- my music is loud enough to disrupt conversations a block away! In this way, you're giving me attention rather than the person you really want to talk to. That means I'm cool-- oh damn, I'm missing South Park (or whatever this year's pushing-the-envelope, flavor-of-the-month cartoon is)!"

The poor bastards have no political voice whatsoever, no voice, no power, except to consume and be part of petroculture. So then, embracing the thrall, to make one's vehicle shake the walls of the establishment you have no power in, is a way of looking at it.

..here in the halls of power, we hear about it.
Too bad the blast of the speaker squanders so much for so little.

I think a lot of people spend so much time looking at the face value of things and accepting what they perceive through their 5 senses without looking deeper into the why's of a situation. Whatever face or stereotype you use to represent these individuals with "monster speakers," I would say that they're more likely to not have a voice of power in society and "act out" in ways to garner some sort of attention from their peers and the world around them even if it's negative attention.

29. yes, that political voice |
|
We're taught in our culture to squander our political voice. If it is part of a corporate-media-approved way to express dissent, then it is pre-designed to sterlize political power.
And for an education, people pick up equally worthless symbols of political expression, in their corporate jobroles, empowered enough to not question, and no more.
It is saddening to see people who really believe that a big woofer that shakes the walls, can actually revel in shaking the walls of power instead of *really* shaking them. The cheap plastic power replaces the real power conveniently; slavery is all.
Welcome to DU, VespertineIconoclast; we've not chatted, and its such a fine pleasure.

But many of them are far too stupid to think it through that far. Rebels without a clue.
Those damned bazooka bass tubes never fail to piss me off. It's like being assaulted within your own home by someone you'll never see. Even worse, I live just a block from one of the shops that installs the damned things, so the new customers are forever testing them out.

The thing with bass is that it carries, so it's not especially louder on the inside than it is on the outside.

26. I was thinking about posting this very thing. |
|
Some idiot pulled up next to me tonight with the music so loud, the water in my water bottle was vibrating and my inner ears were itching. It nearly gave me a headache.
I was in a car of a friend's sister once, and she had the stereo/bass/whatever turned up so loud listening to the insane Clown Posse. After five minutes, I had to get out. Another poor soul and I walked to our destination. The headache and the embarrassment in showing up in a car like that was simply too much for us.
