Really sad tonight, need a few hugs :(
My wife AutumnMist and my 5 yr old Daughter are flying out tomorrow to California. They will be gone about 3 weeks. I miss them already.

I can't make it out this trip for a variety of reasons, so I will be home alone. I am always happy they get to go out and have fun in the sun, see her old friends and family, etc. It just gets lonely here with the sound of little feet and taking care of the wife.

This will be good for her health, mentally and physically, so I am stoked she is able to afford to go out again this Thanksgiving (she goes out 2-3 times a year). She is tired and ill a lot with the parkinson's, but I think this may help her to re-energize.

Happy for her, sad for me. Expect to see me on here a lot, hanging out with our extended DU family. Being here helps keep me stay sane at times.

If your sad too and need a hug, chime in - let's help one another..

If you see this babe - I will miss you as I said tonight. It ain't home without my girls here to take care of. I will try not to eat too much fried chicken with mashed potatoes and noodles. Maybe some Spam here and there mixed in.

Any ideas what to make for a single person to eat?

1. Mrs. Straight Story? Don't listen to the man.
I have it on good authority that he ate two fried chickens and a bucket of mashed potatoes this evening. You know he can't be trusted, what with KFC around the corner. Please come home soon! Before it's too late!

2. Well, I prefer making my own :)
Better than that KFC stuff to be sure!

I live off of crappy food when she is gone. Beer, Chicken, and smokes. Maybe I will be healthier if I just grill the chicken eh :)

8. I cook a lot
Made homemade noodles and chicken the other night for the wife and daughter. Home made noodles can be a pain in the butt!

I can cook chicken many different ways - thanks to mom. She did not care what I ate or when. I could be up at 2am playing D&D with my friends and they would get hungry, so I learned to cook early on.

My wife does not like meat loaf or dark meat chicken, unless I cook it.

She taught me all about mexican cooking though, up until I met her I thought Mexican food was taco bell. man was I wrong!!

10. I did read your thread
And cannot imagine how hard that must be.

If you ever need to talk to someone shoot me a PM or give me a call. I used to work on the other side of the bars as a deputy, and always felt for those folks :(

12. Hey, TSS
Sorry you're going to be alone for three weeks, but I have to say, I am so happy that Mrs. TSS is getting out, and able to do some stuff. I remember you saying that sometimes she has a difficult time, so it's good to see she is up to this trip.

And yep, we'll be here if you need to talk, or just hang out.

16. I am very happy she is going
I think it will do wonders for her. And if all works out well, we will be moving back there in short order.

Thank you for your reply!

14. Your wife is lucky to be able to visit her family and old friends
I live in Northern California but my mom and brothers live in Massachusetts. My mom is 91, and I really
want to spend some time with her.
What do you like to eat? Peruse your wife's cookbooks; maybe you could try cooking something new to have for a meal, and freeze the rest in individual portions. Then you will have some homemade frozen dinners to heat up in the oven.
DU has kept my husband sane, too. I listen to the radio a lot (Mostly NPR, KGO San Francisco: http://www.kgoam810.com/home.asp ,and Air America) then we discuss topics from both. If you're at your computer at all between 4:00(!) and 8:00 am try listening to Ray Taliaferro streaming on KGO (his program is on 1:00-5:00am PST- he's good and has lots of interesting callers)
I have felt much better since the election, have you?

17. Sorry to hear you are sad tonight
However it's wonderful that the Mrs. & daughter were able to make the trip. I hope it does help the Mrs. to re-energize.

Maybe you can use this time to re-energize yourself as well? Do some chores you may have put off while caring for your girls. Get ahead of the game by cooking & freezing meals to share when they get home, giving you more time to relax with them.

This time of year I cook a lot of soup & casseroles. I'm single so a big pot of whatever will feed me a few days. When I get tired of it, the rest goes in the freezer & I make another big pot of something. Today's pot produced white bean & ham soup.

18. If you can go early, most restaurants have great specials
and it's almost cheaper to go to a resaturant, than to cook for one or buy frozen prepared foods.

get yourself some good books, find some cozy restaurants, and treat yourself..

but if you do want to cook for yourself, there;s always the staples..

hamburgers on the grill
ham slices with rice pilaf & green beans
a snazzy omelet with the left over ham
macaroni & cheese

22. Think of it as an opportunity...
When the family is gone here, I use the time to tackle all my little chores. No one will complain if I spread boat parts all over the living room, kitchen, dining room table, etc. It's also a great time to exercise...long bike rides w/o worrying about when you need to get home. Hiking and canoing by yourself is very relaxing, almost therapeutic. Sit back in your favorite restaurant/bar with a book and a glass of wine for the afternoon.

Enjoy the time you've got to yourself, it's rare.
