Once again i am still unhip and out of the loop
I go to Target today to pick up a birthday gift for a friend of my daughter, it's only at Target so off i go, i pull in to the parking lot way down at the end and walk toward the door where i see a big crowd of people sitting out on the side walk, some had chairs some were just sitting on the ground, what the hell is going on? Now i don't want to cut anybody so i ask a lady whats the hold up, "Don't you know?" "Was their a crime or fire drill?" "No! the PS3 is available today!!!"
"A Ps whaaaa?" "Hurumph! The PLAY STATION 3?" and she annunciated every syllable for me. "Ok then, thanks" "We've been here since last night!" "It rained last night didn't it?" "Yes and it was awful but i'm getting my unit so it was worth it" "Well good luck with that."

Ok so i go in to the store, get what i need to get and go to the register, the cashier says "Did you see all those crazy people outside?" "Yes, kind of difficult to miss, but i'm sure they'll be happy once they buy their game thingy" "Well some will, 10 of them because thats all we're getting in" "Do those 100 or so people outside know there are only 10?"

"NO"

Needless to say i don't mind being unhip and i'm glad i got the hell out of there before the non-hilarity ensues.

1. I don't get it either.
I've never understood the fascination with video games. They're time wasters.

5. me too, i've seen the Star wars and Harry Potter people camped out for movie
tickets on the news but this was the first time seeing it in person. I didn't realize they wouldn't all be able to buy that thing, i bet it's going to get really ugly there today.

4. One of the women I work with talked to some of the Sony people...
at Circuit City yesterday. Apparently they told her that they don't recommend anyone purchase it for at least a year because the first release is a piece of shit. It will burn up, Blue Ray is sketchy at best, and it is over-priced.

7. Saw some of them a few years ago at 5am in Chicago
Was on my way to interview someone who was only available at 6am, and passed a bunch of people sitting outside the Sony store on Michigan Avenue, waiting for one of the earlier incarnations.

Some of my friends' kids are hoping for a PS3, but they are going to be sorely disappointed, because none of these parents have the time to camp out.

11. Yikes!
That sounds terrible....
I just prefer to be outside...it would be a waste of money to buy one.

14. You left? I would have told them there's only 10.
"You know there's only going to be 10 units available, right? How will you decide who gets one?"

then sit back and watch the hilarity!

23. Right on.
Making 90 people sit out there for hours is horrible. I bet many of them will never return to that store.

16. Me and you, chimps. And another thing...
IMHO American kids are generally overweight/obese today because they're parked on their fat butts plugged into the virtual world of 'games' (and I use the term loosely) all those hours when they used to be outside running and playing and getting what we used to call 'fresh air' (possibly questionable in some areas of the globe now) and working off those calories and excess energy.
:-(
End of Geezer-Rant.

18. Those kids should get out there and run around!
...I type, as I've got my fat butt plugged into the virtual series of tubes known as the internets.

19. i'm going to ask my daughter about this thing today, she hasn't asked me for
it but she doesn't really ask for all that much now that she's 12, give the girl a gift card to the book store and she's happy child. thats not to say she doesn't play games because she does have a gameboy but when it comes to Friday night game night at my house i beat her ass in battleship but she kills me in Risk.

21. Well, it is 600 smackers.
And you need a high definition TV to get the full effect.

It's really marketed towards twenty/thirty somethings.

22. oh we won't buying it, her game boy is 4 years old and she's never asked
for an upgrade and i'm sure there have been advances in gameboy technology since she got hers. There is no frigging way i would $600 for a gaming system.
