So, I woke up this morning after midnight with my throat ON FIRE. I was nauseous. It felt like there was acid bubbling up and every time I'd cough, it would get worse. And it was difficult not to cough. I took a few pills, drank soda, tried everything. It was terrible. I was up and down all night. Went to work this morning and stayed an hour. So now I'm home. Apparently I'm one of those people incapable of eating curry. Not that what I had was very impressive, so I don't think I'm going to mind never eating it again. So I'm home sick. What are you up to? Duckie

Maybe you're allergic to it. I love curry-it's never done me wrong.

You trust a Bangladeshi make your Indian food. (I already told her this to her face, and she laughed, so no one go getting all twitchy.) Duckie

I love curry and hot food. If I had your G/I system I'd be very unhappy.

7. You can still have curry but you need to take an acid inhibitor first! |
|
Or, you could just avoid curry. I'd rather be whipped.

12. Thai curry? Indian curry? Japanese curry? |
|
If Thai: Red curry? Green curry? Masaman? If Indian: Vindaloo? Garam masala? ?
C'mon...you can't dismiss them all with one experience.

14. No, because there are hot curries and sweet curries, curries made with coconut milk |
|
and curries made without coconut milk. Some have peppers, some don't. Some are dairy, some are meat, some are vegan.
There's about as much similarity between Thai and Indian curries as there is between any two other foods with complex flavor profiles.

20. There's really no such thing as curry, anyway |
|
The British made up the word. Probably after misunderstanding "kari" a word for sauce, stew or gravy. Indian chefs rarely (if ever) use the word. ;-)

16. I don't think they have much in common. |
|
Real curry comes in lots of different regional styles, each with its own mix of spices. Generic "curry powder" is only for Westerners who refuse to allow anything foreign in their kitchens.
Anyway, your reaction might have been to just one of the herbs in the curry. If that's the case, then there's a chance that curry prepared in a different style might not be a problem for you.

21. How heavy was the cilantro? |
|
I know a lot of people who get the same symptoms from it and some 'curries' go heavy on the cilantro.

I can't imagine life without curry, all kinds, especially Thai. I eat curry dishes several times a week. It lets me know I'm still alive.
