LONDON (AFP) - Queen Elizabeth II has announced she is to visit the United States next year to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the first permanent English settlement in North America. The 80-year-old monarch said she and her husband Prince Philip, 85, would undertake a state visit in May to mark the anniversary of the Jamestown Settlement, where English migrants landed in 1607 and established the first successful English colony in the New World. The monarch announced her new trip in the Queen's Speech at the state opening of parliament, setting out the government's legislative plans for the coming year. A statement from the queen's office later confirmed the visits.

5. Lyndon LaRouche should be kept at least 1,000 feet away
Since he lives in Virginia and all.

7. Jamestown went nowhere--a failed venture
full of aristocrats looking to make a lot of money but having no earthly skills to survive. It failed, even though it was the first settlement. Why did not Jamestown achieve the success of the New England first settlers?

Oh well, dear Queen, we do not expect you to honor the New England settlements and their yankee practicality. They were the first to rise up against the tyranny of your King George and continued on to successfully establish this America as an independant nation, free from everything the Brits tried to impose upon it and we won the revolution, thank to those patriots in New England. Err, where were the patriots in Jamestown at that time?
