In West Bend, they had a mob, (literally, it was a mob) racing to get one of those damn things.

One of the mob was slammed into a light pole, dislocating his jaw.

1. It's not the PS3's fault
It's rampant consumerism-- parents think they *literally* have to buy the damn thing for their kids or else their kids will hate them :eyes:

My SO and I will be buying one when we move in together.

6. Yeah it is.
Haven't you seen the media and advertisement blitz about the PS3? For, what, 200,000 units?

Lots of people who are waiting in lines for those games aren't doing it for their kids. Many gamers are adults.

9. I have no issue with the older gamers.
They're adults and can decide for themselves if they want the system-- many parents just do it to please their kids.

15. I had a brain fart earlier
I had decided to go to Walmart and wait in line...........wrong........too many people, too little game consoles, come to find out, my kid doesn't really want one anyway. He wants a WII, what is this WII thing and when does it come out? Please tell me they are going to make enough of them, so I don't have to wrestle to get one!
Carly

16. The Wii is coming out Sunday, I think
It's 200, I think, and is aimed towards more younger gamers (but still will attract older gamers like me).

It's actually really cool looking.

11. Mybe that's why the people were camped out today?
I went to Target today and there were 3 or 4 tents set up with people sitting by them. I didn't care enough to ask them why they were camped out there.

12. The Xboxs 360 is a better option right now.
It already has Gears of War, Ghost Recon, Oblivion, Dead Rising and many other great games. The playstation 3 is near impossible to get, and many of its important games have gotten delayed. If you want a PS3, it's probably best to wait.

18. Doesn't the current PS3 have problems?
Problems reading old PS1/2 discs, BluRay media problems, overheating problems. It'd wait a year until these issues have been ironed out and actual competition has forced the prices down, along with a bigger selection of games to choose from.

19. With Sony the brand new ones always do
And if it's fucked out of the box, and of course some will be, nobody's going to be able to swap it out for a new one, so the buyer of a $600 paperweight is either going to have to send their lemon to service or sit on a store credit until more come in anyhow. I worked at BestBuy back when the PS2 came out, and there were a whole lot of unhappy people with broken consoles waiting around at the service desk, and this version looks to be no better.

I'd trust a new Wii though, Nintendo tends to make more reliable stuff.

until the bugs are ironed out.

while Sony tends to follow the Microsoft model - get your product out the door NOW to gain market share, then fix the problems later.

cops are making some pull down their tents; we seen a cop at the best buy try...the the lost prevention gal told him that it came down from corporate that they were allowed to camp in front of their stores so long as they were peaceful, it was great the look on the cop's face when she told him they'd already been there for two nights...no problems

Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 09:16 AM by izzybeans
Then they came for playstations and furbies and the rest all sat and laughed.

I hope there is no consumer product that I would ever help create a mob scene for. The Beatles, maybe, but probably not.

his at a specialty gaming store, paid for it already, all he has to do is go pick it up this morning. I'm trying to talk him into selling it, but he's being stubborn. I think its stupid to pay $600 for this.

32. so not worth it because PS1's are landfill fodder now
and PS2's are a dime a dozen. PS3's will be that way soon enough. Never spend more that you have to on technology that rapidly goes out of date. My 30GB iPod was very hard to come by last year at $299. Now the 60GB versions are selling for less than that on eBay and very easy to get.

35. Actually it's been shown that some PS1 models are better CD players
than the audiophile class high-end players which cost upwards of 5 grand. Something about the sampler Sony put in the system.

37. really? then I must get one
I use an SACD player for high end audio playback. I'd like to A/B test the difference.

back in the 90's many musicians wee using S-VHS decks to mix down multi track music too since the wide high speed tape provided good quality audio recordings.

36. A friend of mine and his girlfriend waited
for three days outside of a circuit city to buy 2 of the like 4-8 PS3s they put on sale yesterday. Not to play them, but to sell them each for 3k+ on ebay. A PS3 may not be worth an injury and a 2 day wait, but to a college student several thousand dollars of easy money certainly is.
