What do you collect?
I'm always surprised to hear some of the interesting things people collect.
I personally don't "collect" anything, but I always thought it ould be neat to start a collection of old carriage lanterns.

My MIL collects damn near everything. Stamps, character cups, snow-babies, ceramic flowers, keychains, coins, barbies, beer cans, snow globes, marvin the martian, slinkies, avon bottles, mickey mouse and elvis items..you name it. Her latest collection binge is "homies" and "trailer trash". They are little plastic characters you get out of a machine for about fifty cents (you know those machines outside wal-marts and pizza parlors?). She loves those machines and is forever collecting crap out of them.I swear going to her house is like walking into Pee-Wee's Playhouse.
My dad used to collect beer steins. Had quite a collection, but my mother wouldn't let him display them anywhere.
My mom has a vast collection of angels.
My stepfather used to collect roadkill..seriously. He was an avid flytier and would use hair from the carcasses when he would tie flies. After he died we hauled away no less than 20 boxes of various hides and bundles of fur he had gathered from different roadkill across the state of Wisconsin.
So what do you (or what do you want to) collect?

1. Mesh handbags
Although I've given it up for the time being due to:
- no money
- price of mesh handbags
- no place to wear them anymore - used to attend a lot of formal affairs, but not so many anymore

3. Coupla things...
I've got about a gazillion coffee cups...every time I go somewhere, I get a cup. I collect crystal animals...sadly, a lot of them suffered when the kids were small -- Bonehead alone was responsible for shattering several little lives.

Other than that...books. Lots and lots of books.

Can't have too many books.

22. "Can't have too many books"
I agree!I *LOVE* books;old leather bound ones with that certain patina on them...I especially love the smaller ones.
There is a town north of here that has a wonderful old musty book store,I could spend all afternoon looking through all those books.

I also have a small collection of antique painted wooden boxes.Other than that I don't really collect anything else.Unless you consider hoodies and jeans things to "collect". :o

56. I've got four shelves filled with old books...
not so many leather-bound, though. God, I love the old ones. I love the new ones. I love the small books of poetry and I love the big, heavy atlases. If it's got printed pages and is bound...I love it.

Old, new, doesn't matter but you're right...there's just something...I dunno...magic there.

23. 70's stereo gear and vinyl records
I love vintage hi-fi...old Pioneer, Sansui, Yamaha, Marantz...more personality than today's disposable black plastic. It's fun to drag a piece home from the thrift or yard sale or the curb and plop it on the bench and bring it back to life.

And LP records are wonderful, I've gotten them for as little as a quarter a pop. Hard to beat the sound of a good, clean album on a well-set-up turntable. And you can get a huge variety of music on the cheap.

I got one at the hardware store, one at the fabric store. They are great for sofas, bedspreads, and for my dog's hair on the fabric car seat upholstery. The sponge is used dry, and gathers up fur easily.

31. Well, first and foremost...
Superman stuff...Yeah, I'm a big kid. I like comics, toys, key chains, shirts...basically anything with the S symbol on it, or superman stamped on it. You can check my journal to confirm this collection if you want to. But in whole, I collect a lot of comic book stuff...comics, the toys for the superhero's...like I do for Superman items, but not all Gung Ho like I do with Superman merchandise.

I also collect/and play Magic the Gathering...its basically a compicated game of War...War, the plain jane card game...:)

My wife is HUGE into turtle stuff...like porcelian figures, lawn ornaments, tshirts...anything basically...she even likes TMNT stuff...:) She is also very heavy into american indian art, and crafts....:)

but I think my family missed that memo at some point. I used to collect unicorns, but I quit a while back. They just don't do it for me anymore. Angels/Faeries are much better. ;)

I also collect coins with my Dad. He's always been an avid collector and we started when I was a kid collecting coins from each place we visited on vacation. Now we just collect what interests us.

Right now, we are working on collecting the state quarters. He has a US map that we are filling in, the plan is that it will go to my son when he's older.

Edited on Fri Nov-17-06 04:45 PM by YankeyMCC
I also used to have a pretty cool collection of Pins, all kinds of pins. I had a few score from around the world. Stupidly I pined most of them to a bandanna and hung it around the rear view mirror of my 1972 Nova that DID NOT LOCK :banghead: Stupid, stupid, stupid

Now I just collect books much to the annoyance of my wife. ;)

On Edit: Funny thing about the pins and the Nova. Not only did the doors not lock the ignition was broken and I installed a push button start. So I never had to worry about loosing my keys because none were need to open the door and drive away. So whoever took the pins could've easily stolen the car. But I guess they realized the pins were much more valuable ... actually the bandanna without the pins might have been more valuable than the Nova. :)

47. Music, books, commemorative coins, a few stamps
My music addiction has spawned hundreds and hundreds of CD's and vinyl for over a quarter-century now. I once worked for a bookstore, and although I love my collection, it sure makes moving a bigger chore thna it already is. :D

I am something of a geek. I collect the state quarters, and have the entire set of Louisiana Purchase/Lewis & Clark/Jefferson nickels, and some great .999 silver commemorative coins. I also collect a presidential series of stamp ingots and medals, the ingots are .999 silver and layered with 24k gold, and the medals are bronze, also layered in 24k gold. It's through a joint venture between the U.S. Mint and the Postal Service. The craftsmanship is unbelievable, and the dies used for the medals are original. Each time a president is inaugurated, a new medal is created and struck. So the George Washington medal is cast from a die over 200 years old.

Speaking of which, the presidential dollars will start being released next year. :bounce:
