Is "appointment setter" the new euphemism for telemarketer? |

These poor people get paid minimum wage to harrass strangers and take abuse in an effort to make it easy for sales people to get a commission.
It used to be that the sales people had to cold-call you themselves. They had to take the abuse directly. If they sold something and earned a commission they at least did the work to earn it. Not any more. Now these "appointment setters" do the hard work and take the abuse, but the sales people still get the commission.
:wtf:

Nothing like getting paid for having someone else do the heavy lifting!
I just asked if the person was a telemarketer, she said no, she was an appointment setter. :eyes:
Told her we are on the Do Not Call list and hung up.

is pretty much meaningless? If a company sends you one piece of mail, such as a postcard advertisment or something they can call you even if you are on the DNC list.

4. I've had this same number harass my house for over a month now |

We are on the do not call list and yet they manage to call at least 3 time a day, they never leave a message and when I do pick up they never identify themselves and always ask for me...except I'm never "home". It's infuriating because I'd like to know who they are but don't want to get stuck in a sales pitch.

You'd be doing yourself and them a favor by picking up the phone and telling them you're not interested and to please not call again.
As a B2B sales rep for over 10 yrs, I finally called it quits & am now unemployed. I did my own cold calling and believe me, it sucks. I couldn't take it anymore. Sales is probably one of the hardest jobs out there...I wouldn't recommend it unless you don't mind bugging the shit out of people & taking abuse. There ARE ethical sales people out there. I sold HVAC service contracts and recently, yellow page advertising so I wasn't selling to residential customers but, a "salesman" is about on par with a "lawyer" as far as respect goes even if what they're selling is a genuine need. It can be very lucrative though which is why I stuck with it all these years. The problem is, now I don't know what the fuck I'm gonna do. When you've made it a career, there's not much else to fall back on.
Anyway, just saying...I've been on the other end of the phone so I'm always very nice and considerate to telemarketers but, I know how irritating it is as well. Just nicely tell them you're not interested before they go into their speel & you'll lessen the stress on both sides. I totally appreciated someone that was upfront and honest with me versus avoiding me and stringing me along.
