The News Isn't Good for Katie

Although Katie Couric has said that she is paying no attention to her ratings, the latest from Nielsen Research might induce a shudder if she does take a peek at them. On Thursday it was reported that ratings for NBC's Today show have actually increased since Couric departed and Meredith Vieira replaced her. In fact, Today was the only morning show to register a ratings increase versus the same week a year ago. It now sports a comfortable 17 percent advantage over ABC's Good Morning America versus only 9 percent last year at this time. Earlier this week, it was reported that ratings for Couric's CBS Evening News had fallen below those for the show when it was hosted by Bob Schieffer

2. Maybe if she'd stop dumbing down the news
The show makes me feel like I'm watching "Entertainment Tonight". The sad thing is, there were so many other women more qualified to hold that job but probably aren't considered as "Perky" as Katie

3. I can't watch tv news at all.
With rare exception (watching election results, local news, etc) I just can't stand any of it. It's a fucking joke. We watched OutFoxed in one of my classes last week, and I'd already seen it, but rather enjoyed watching the expressions on the faces of some of my classmates. Some of them had actually thought Fox was a legitimate news outlet.

:wow:

4. I've been watching the Today show since Jane Pauley's day,

and I was a Cronkite and then a Rather fan. It isn't that I don't see Couric as an anchor...I just don't like the format of the show. It's too much like a newmagazine. I think if she just did the news like Jennings (I miss him) or Williams, she could give them a run for their money. Who knows, maybe this format is her idea.

I still watch Today...it is part of my morning routine, though they piss me off more often than not.
