2. It's a new media format.
Could be the next VHS. Could also be the next Beta.

Sony's going with the Blu-ray format. Thus, they've using it in their new Playstation. Just plain Blu-ray players are going for $1000 now. Thus, Sony figures if they've got the Blu-ray format in their game system, it will go along way towards promoting the format.

5. HD DVD has larger capacity, but graphics aren't as good
BluRay has a smaller capacity but better graphics. I think that's the breakdown.

7. HD DVD holds about 30 GB.
Blu-Ray up to 200 GB, last time I checked.

The graphics depends on the hardware, not the media format, I believe.

18. I know that it why the PS2 was the winner over the other
systems because of the inclusion of a DVD player.

21. There were plenty of reasons why...
the PS2 beat out it's competition.

But it won't necessarily apply here. The format that wins is not necessarily the best format, or the most convenient.

6. Here you go
Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), a group of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson). The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. This extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs will offer consumers an unprecedented HD experience.

25. Yep
I am so sad, I just installed Linux on my laptop from scratch - not even from a distro. I compiled everything from source myself, by hand.

It fucking boots fast though. :7

29. I got help
There is a site www.linuxfromscratch.org (site is fubar right now) that guides you through installing your own Linux system from source from scratch, step by step. Actually it's really easy in principle - all you gotta do is follow the instructions precisely. The only difficulty comes in that there are so many of them. It took me three days just to be able to boot the thing on its own.

The site has a bootable CD you can download, that contains a working set of tools to compile your initial toolset, as well as a complete set of the source code you need.
