1. You mean there is a flamewar between the northerners,
and the a-little-bit-more-north-erners?

Because that's what it looks like to me. :)

Anything above the equator is all the same, dammit, and should be purged from the Democratic party before it costs dem tickets the seats in the superbowl game!

You're all a bunch of communist republicans!

Please don't let the flamewars in GD get to you.

Haven't spent time with the dark side at other forums and having lurked at their looney sites, it has become pretty clear to me that 90% of the flame wars are started by their nasty socks. They get off on it, it's their pathetic hobby and they are always bragging about how many socks they have.

26. Hey, that is great.
Listen I grew up in Charlotte, NC and in my eighth grade year two cities were chosen to participate in the wonderful experiment they called "desegregation". Those cities were Boston, Mass and Charlotte. I was upset, because I was bused across town to another school and my black friends I made during that year were equally distressed at leaving their neighborhood schools. We didn't care about skin color, we just wanted to stay where we could walk to school.

But nothing happened. It worked. In NC.

In Boston, meanwhile, school buses were attacked and small children shouted at and harassed. I remember the news reports of the time and asking my English mother (moved here in the late 50's) why they were doing that to those children in Boston. And my mother just answered that they were ignorant and hateful people that would treat others that way.

So in my young mind, I always thought the NORTH was the bad place.

66. Yeah, we're all pretty much inbred, to a greater or lesser extent...
IIRC, the odds are that any two people of English ancestry are probably going to be related within the degree of 20th cousin or closer, give or take a few generations (but then, it's not that strange when you consider that there were only around 5 million people in Britain in 1600 and there are 60 million now, plus many millions of British descent in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand...and there were only some tens of thousands of colonists in Virginia, Maryland and New England in the mid-1600's, who have many tens of millions of descendants now).

And I've been around...not so much in the Lounge, though, really. Good to see you, too (hope things are somewhat better...saw from some of your posts over the past few weeks that you seemed to be having a rough time of it).

I am tempted to dig out my old Confederate flag and wave it in their faces.

Although I am a proud native Californian, my father is from Tennessee, and his heritage goes back in Tennessee and Virginia for over 200 years. My great-great-grandfather was under Lee's command at Petersburg before the end of the war. Being descended from Lee is nothing to be ashamed of! He was a man of honor and integrity.

43. I understand, my family has been in Florida since the mid 1700's.
My great, great grandfather was shot in the leg on the last day his unit saw action in the civil war. Twenty years later, an infection took hold in the wounded area and his last words reportedly were "Well, the yankees finally killed me".

When my father married my mom (who was from Pennsylvania), his mother (think of Granny from the Bev. Hillbillies) refused to attend the wedding because "I'm not going to see him marry a yankee".

There was a lot of bad feelings generated during Reconstruction that is just now fading from the culture.

Civil War and afterwards.

She was born in 1896 so a lot of the old family members who lived at the time were still alive.

Texas was lucky, we had the longhorn cattle to help us.

The rest of the south had a harder time of it.

I don't think people from the north can understand the bitter feelings that still exist because of this.

The south should have be welcomed back not punished.

The civil war is not that many generations ago. I knew a Grandmother who knew people who lived at the time of the war and afterwards.

When my Grandmother and her famil at family reunions would talk about the old days they used the word Yankee as a curse word.

54. I remember my grandmother telling me stories too.
To her family, most of their hatred of the "yankees" was not so much war related as Reconstruction related. The abuses of the occupying army and administration generated almost a 100 years of ill will.

Even Robert E. Lee said "Had I foreseen these results of subjugation, I would have preferred to die at Appomattox with my brave men, my sword in this right hand."

You're inferior to the Southerners in every way as I'm sure they'll point out time and again in these threads oh-the-irony, and if you aren't willing to just roll over and take it, you're only contributing to the problem that is the horrific Southern Bashing that the horrible, awful, nasty unfriendly elitist Yankees are constantly subjecting the poor, poor Southerners to. Just go be rude to someone, or something. ;)

67. yes but, weren't that all stirred up after Carville seemed himself to have...
been pretty much ragging on everything north of north carolina, and east of the eastern bank of the mississippi cause he was for a time there, i know Carville didn't help none; he wants Ford at the DNC, wanted Zell Freaking Miller (of all nut bags) for Gore's running mate, ragged on Dean for what seemed like nothing but spite i mean sheesh...bust out y'all, this is a big ole country it goes all the way out west, south west, north west, mid west, east, north east, all around the town and then some more :)

and I am from the North. You just don't write off a section of the country. I think we have to work on real issues, like unemployment, rather than the moral values GOP line of bull.

General Lee was a great man.

69. I don't want to dump the south...
without them, who would make us norhterners feel so superior? Seriously though, I think we should just scare the hell out of all the trogolodyte "values voters" (who give the south such a bad rep) and push them deeper into the south in fear, until we finally drive them into the gulf of Mexico...Now there's some full immersion baptism that I can really get behind!
