Worst Comedian In History?
I think of old stand up comedians, and there were a bunch of crummy ones, but.........

hell, I don't know, I'll laugh at damn near anything!

Who do you think was the crummiest comedian of all time?

11. Jerry Lewis is underrated
He is actually very funny, and has inspired many copy cats. Jim Carrey comes immediately to mind.

And Professor Frink in the "The Simpsons" is a direct copy of Jerry Lewis' "The Nutty Professor"

19. Benny Hill is a different genre
British for one, and definitely focused on humor through political incorrectness.

I was watching Jerry Lewis in "The Nutty Professor" a few days ago.

I will grant you that, on the whole, the movie is not all that funny.

But I saw some scenes of completely silent visual comedy that were hilarious. The mannerism, facial expression, timing... It all worked together to deliver a hilarious punch. The scene of the professor going to the Dean's office after blowing up the lab is one such example.

Few modern comedies rely on the comedian's ability to convey mood an emotion though expression. Most rely on word play rather than acting. It is a throwback to the days of comic radio and as such, a waste of visual bandwidth.

Bartender: What'll it be....

Buddy Love: What'll it be...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

I don't find a lot funny. But that scene...and his execution...his smooth character...and that "hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" at the end....it still brings me to tears.

There was a lot of funny going on in those movies.

I was never that crazy about Bob Hope as a comedian although his movies were good. Funny thing, my dad shared his politics more than I did, but he didn't like him either.

122. Yeah. Disturbing. And not at all funny.
I can handle disturbing, even offensive, sometimes, if in the context of the satirical objective the comedian is going for, the jokes are actually amusing (ie; Chris Rock is funny to me, despite some of his sexist remarks, and the fact that his desire to reclaim terms of opprobrium in his stand-ups means that yes, he uses "racist" language during the routines). But Andrew Dice Clay was just flat-out not funny. Ever.

105. Lines from a poem
by a friend of mine, Daria O'Neill (the entire poem can be found here):

"The earth shook and quivered, the topsoil burst loose
And in a great roar like the bray of a moose
Who's just drunk a vat of moose-maddening juice
From the grave sprang the doctor, whose last name was Seuss.
Nine years under had left him a corpsy-heart stiller
Blue-tinged and flesh-frayed like an extra from Thriller
A post-mortem figure to give the heart quivers
He still looked more pleasant than a living Joan Rivers."

Joan Rivers is my number-one most hated person on the planet. Every time I see her I can feel my blood start to boil. One of the reasons I rarely, if ever, watch the E! network.

177. Lisa Lampinelli gets my vote. Oh yeah, sorry, Howard Stern, too.
It's not funny. Racism/sexism as a punch-line is not funny. Carlos Mencia is another one that goes too far to the right sometimes, although I like his comedy on occasion. That dumbass that used to come on after the Daily show, can see him...Colin someone, and every other loudmouth jerk that used to be on his show, except that one that told Ann Coulter to get lost and redeemed himself for ten seconds of his life.

I don't like Howard Stern for the same reason I don't like Lampinelli. Or Andrew Dice Clay or the ones like that. There is comedy and then there are fetishes, and I think alot of these people I mentioned have a fan base of people who want to say 'fuck-you' to a whole segment of other people that they think have gotten too much power in society, there's some kind of fetishistic wanking off/meeting of need going on there, but it's not comedy. Funny ha-ha. Of all of them, Lampinelli grates on me the worst. She's a huge flashing sign of just how far to the right we've swung that someone like her can make a living by saying 'spic'/'jap'/whatever over and over again for a half an hour. The day that someone, male or female, gets up out of the audience and punches her will be a good day.

The one who thought he was cute, from NYC, no material. Dark hair, late 30s/early 40s but he'd never admit to it.

He's a major @sshole. We did a NYE night with him. He didn't know his date's name and refused to say "Happy New Year" to the audience. AND he wasn't funny.

I can not comment on his writing, having been a writer for SNL is impressive, but what he did on the Al Franken Show was embarrassing to say the least. All too often I found myself apologizing to my friends, (whom I had urged to watch the show), whenever Al would bust out with one or more of his "nutty relative" routines. I always felt that his show was 75% excellent political commentary and 25% utter nonsense. Even-so I was saddened when his show went off the air.

on second thoughts a Nudie suit would be too high class for this guy.

126. Funny thing about Warnke
he had two very different schtiks. One, the reformed "ex-Satanist high priest" who supposedly led thousands of devil worshippers in California and claimed to have inside knowledge of all sorts of creepy activities. The other, the goofy, silly, longhaired, slightly hippified, puppy-eyed, Vietnam vet, "Christian comedian".

His claims of having been a Satanist leader were thoroughly debunked. He never was. It effectively killed both his careers.

But what is he trying to do today to restart his career? The alleged ex-Satanist thing. During the 80s he found that playing up the "ex-Satanist" angle brought in a lot more money - and attention in mainstream media where he was frequently cited as an "expert" on Satanism - than his comedy shows ever did.

132. That's true, but...
"Old stand ups" didn't hit the national consciousness until they'd cut their teeth in a thousand anonymous dives and shitholes around the country. I think that today's comedians suffer from earlier visibility, which allows us to see a greater proportion shitty, unfunny stuff than would ever have made it onto TV in the "old" days.

And I am NOT biased against female comics, BTW. Lisa Lampanelli is one of the funniest fucking people on the PLANET, IMO.

127. I like one of those...
I do think Janeane Garofalo is very funny. I have a burned CD of her HBO special from like 1997 and I laugh every time I listen to it, and I've seen her live and ROTFL'd the whole time.

Laura Kightlinger and Sarah Silverman I can take or leave.

I've never even heard of Lisa Lampanelli...

124. I think Tom Green is the (second) worst comedian ever.
If I listen to him very long, I get itchy. No, literally.

135. Chalky White.
He was on the UK comedy circuit in the 70s, playing mostly working-men's clubs with occasional TV appearances. Chalky was a black man (called Chalky White, geddit?), whose routine consisted of endless 'jokes' about how stupid, lazy and promiscuous black people are. His humor was considered 'safe' because he was black, so white people could laugh without feeling like bigots. Nice, eh?

Chalky made Steppin' Fetchit look like Malcolm X.

140. Reminds me of an SNL skit.
David Alan Grier played a Louis Armstrong-ish singer who lets white people rub his bald head and do other demeaning things to him.

At the end of the skit, the narrator said he was the only black person to be lynched by black people.

172. Andrew Dice Clay and Sam Kineson are the worst ever.
Trully misogynist humor. An old time comedian I hated was Foster Brooks. I don't think drunks are the least bit funny. I also think Carrot Top and Gallagher are truly lame.

173. Easy. Jerry Seinfeld.
Seinfeld's stand-up sucks, his TV show sucked, his specials suck. Seinfeld sucks so bad he should endorse Rietschle vacuum pumps, the only objects in the known universe that can draw more vacuum than Seinfeld's act. I can see the warranty: "If this vacuum pump doesn't suck harder than Seinfeld's act, call 1-800-555-1212 and we'll send you a new one."

He has a DVD out called "I'm Going to Tell You For The Last Time" or some shit like that. I looked at the cover of this thing and went, "Good."

Gilbert Gottfried is the second worst comic in the universe. Gottfried's act is real simple: he brings a chalkboard on stage and scrapes his fingernails against it until you laugh hard enough to shut him the fuck up.

And then there's Larry the Cable Guy. HIS whole schtick is "if I act dumb enough, people will give me money." Which works, but I prefer my comics to have a slight bit of intelligence.

I actually LIKE Bobcat Goldthwait. Once he knocks off the "Police Academy" screaming shit, which he does, he has some decent liberal humor...and he was just vicious toward Ronald Reagan.
