3. Annette Bening
Annette Bening is a terrific actress. She deserved one for "The Grifters", one for "American Beauty" (hell, she was as good as Kevin Spacey, who did win an Oscar) and she deserved one for "Being Julia". I haven't seen it yet, but she's touted for another Oscar nomination for "Running With Scissors". Don't think she'll win this time, either.

19. Helen Mirren really deserves one - she is phenomenal.
I really want to see "The Queen"! - I live in the boonies and the only things that come here are stupid-ass "Deck the Halls" bullshit. Argh.

Looking forward to, and dreading, the end of "Prime Suspsect"

He, a newcomer, was also up against MASTRIOIANNI(sp), Burt LANCASTER...
But it was danged TOUCHING when a couple of years ago the Oscar people approached him about accepting an honorary, and he declined, saying something like, "How kind, but I still have some years left to EARN one on my own?" CRACKS the heart!!!

The Constant Gardner is one of my favorite films. He and Rachel Weiss were incredible together. She won an Oscar for her role... and he didn't even get nominated? Huh?

I just adore him. Every film he's in, even if I'm not crazy about the film, he still knocks it out of the park.

Is there anything he can't do? If there is, I haven't seen it.

She is dynamite whenever I see her. I love her intensity and her ability to take a three word line and make it take on so many meanings just by a simple inflection.

At least he has a Tony for Glengarry Glen Ross. I remember seeing him in his first film role in Mixed Nuts. He was hysterical.

The Hours, Far From heaven... and where is her Oscar?

Why she didn't get 40 statues for her role in Requiem for a Dream, I'll never know. I lost what litte faith I had left in the Academy after that little oversight...

really. He and Johnny Depp are wonderful in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" . diCaprio also held his own against Meryl Streep and Diane Keaton in "Marvin's Room." I was skeptical of his playing Howard Hughes in "The Aviator" but he pulled it off. And he and Matt Damon are both very good in "The Departed" -- along with the inimitable Jack Nicholson.

60. Ian Holm!
I think the only time he was nominated was for his supporting role in Chariots of Fire.

They didn't even bother to nominate him for Best Actor for The Sweet Hereafter. With its predictable lack of imagination, the Academy gave that particular award to Jack Nicholson for As Good as It Gets. :grr:

Kenneth Branagh ought to have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Othello. He is a revelation.

So far Branagh's been nominated in four categories (Best Actor, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Live Action Short Subject) and has won nothing.

Others who really deserve the recognition:

Judy Davis
Brenda Blethyn
Emily Watson
Ian McKellen
Amy Madigan and Ed Harris
Kate Winslet

And those who are no longer with us:

Barbara Stanwyck
James Mason
Peter Lorre
John Garfield
