she's an underappreciated DUer, not to mention a peach.

And I'd have been damn upset if I didn't have the opportunity to congratulate her.

Redstone.

I had to practically drag that info out of her...

she's obviously not one to toot her own horn.

And yes, she is most definitely a peach.

Actually, I only met her once, and briefly.

I fancy myself a quick study when it comes to people and I would be honored to be her friend. Briarus, too.

18. You, m'dear, deserve every bit of praise. As your husband knows more than
anyone else.

PS: I got the invite, thank you. There may be complications (not ugly ones); I'll PM you tomorrow.

By the way, Thanksgiving is happening at Casa Redstone this year. I'm sure you all have places to go, but just in case you don't, come on down. We have 34 people coming, so three more would NOT be any problem.

Let me know about the 2nd... you guys are welcome to come earlier or later as needed, of course! I'm not sure yet about Monday. I have to be in Colchester at 1:15, and I think it's quite a drive from there, though I've yet to get on google and figure that out. I'll let you know.

Thanks very much for the invite!! We'll be visiting with my grandparents et al., but I really appreciate it!!

23. Ok, you get the short version, since I'm not totally sober
In Real Variables, a negative number does not have a square root, since there is no number that you can square to produce it. In other words, the square root of 9 is either 3 or -3, since squaring each gives you 9. But there is no square root of -9 in Real variables, you can't have a number that you square to get it.

Enter complex variables. First, you take i defined as the square root of -1. So, now you can do all kinds of fun stuff... so if you square 3i, you get 3*3*i*i = 9* -1 = -9. So now you have have square roots of negative numbers, and formulas based on a number that has a real and complex part, like z = x + i*y. You'd be amazed how much weird stuff you can do with this!!

47. Yup. After an angst-ridden and mutually abusive relationship,

math and I parted ways immediately after high school algebra. Hey, we should get together over a beer and do some good old fashioned redneck math-bashing one of these days.

I hear ya, tho. Thank God for people like LynzM and alarcojon (RIP) and all the rest of those Number Heads who hold up that end of the gene pool. Here's another one for them:

48. My high school calculus teacher, bless her, foretold the end.
I went in early, did extra work with her, and she sensed my effort and passed me for the year. Interestingly, I took a class called "Calculus for Business" in college and made an A. I figured the math gods had taken a semester off. I took my A and got the hell outta town.

So, yes, we must share a drink and trash math! :toast:
