What should I name a character?

I'm writing a story and need suggestions for names for a character. He lives in the Ottoman empire, so it has to be a Turkish-type name. For the last name, I was thinking maybe Hadimli, because that's the last name of a former mayor of Istanbul, according to Wikipedia. But that's just an idea, and could easily be changed.

Background information: It's the early 20th century, the man is a soldier. He grew up on a farm; his sister was murdered seven years ago. He's in love with a singer, fiercely proud of his country, ambitious, somewhat obsessive about fighting but pretty much a good person.

It's the name of a T.A. I had at the University of Maryland, and the only Turkish name I know!
