First of all, I am not an Ohio State fan or a Michigan fan (as they say, I don't have a dog in this fight) and this thread is not even about football, and I mean no disrespect to any football coach or player, living, or dead, so there!
Well, OK, maybe a few (care to take a stab at who?):sarcasm:
Anyway, I was sitting in front of the TeeVee today and ABC was doing its pre game build up for the Ohio State - Michigan game. Of course a lot of it was about the legendary Bo Schembechler (RIP, Michigan). They sort of had a contest between all of the commentators to see who could come up with the best "watching the game from up there" metaphor. My personal favorite was the one where Bo had just bought a new Television with a 52" screen for the game. Now, it seems, he'll be watching on a much bigger screen.
Puh leeeeze!
But, I digress.
The token female sort of sports person (and I am NOT making fun of female sports reporter journalist types! ... I mean, we are so past that aren't we?) was talking about the sort of impromptu memorial that the team and school had for Bo. It turned into a mini rally, really

The talking sports head punctuates the end of the piece all emotional like with "And that's the way Bo would have wanted it." End of Story.
And that, my dear DU friends gets me to the point of this rant.
Does anybody recall any media person anywhere saying "And that's the way Paul would have wanted it" or "That's the way Coretta would have wanted it." ?
NO!
Because it didn't happen. OK, maybe it happened somewhere, like on the Internet (one of those evil irresponsible blogs), but certainly not from one of the blobs on CNN, FOX, MSNBC, or the rest of them.
They were to busy sucking up to Rove and their Republican masters, shitting all over themselves to see who could muster the most self righteous "HOW inappropriate"

When a sports figure dies, its "That's the way Bo would have wanted it."
Well, I've got news for you CNN and FOX (not that CNN or FOX would recognize the news).
When someone who spent their life fighting for the oppressed, focusing on the downtrodden and remembering the forgotten is taken from us, it is APPROPRIATE that we celebrate the role they played in life. It is only RIGHT that we honor the things, feeling, emotions, and spirit that made them our heroes, and to rally behind their hope for the future - really. And that we do it in any damn way we deem appripriate.
So, no offense Michigan fans (and Coach Schembechler, may you truly rest in peace ... good game!) but thats the way Senator Paul Wellstone and Coretta Scott King would have wanted it.
