How can the Flintstones be so good, and the Jetsons be so not?
They're practically the same show, by the same producers.

Why is one miles better than the other?

Ever notice how you can remember any number of Flintstones episodes, but you're hard-pressed to remember any Jetsons episodes?

What's that all about?

2. Yeah, everything post-Pebbles is pretty bad.
Read the Jump the Shark posts on the Flintstones; it seems to be universally accepted that Pebbles was the beginning of the ramp, and the Great Gazoo was the shark.

11. Great Gazoo! I should have read your post before posting...
I couldn't think of his name.

How ridiculous is that??

I mean, I get the cars made out of rock and wood, brontasaurus burgers, working at the Quarry driving a dinosaur...but am I supposed to believe in a little green alien named Gazoo?

I don't think so...

3. It's all relative
and in the eye of the beholder, etc.

I probably remember as many Jetsons episodes as Flintstones.

One big difference — "The Flintstones" was modeled on "The Honeymooners," which, like "I Love Lucy," had all the basic elements of a situation comedy. "The Jetsons" was more like "Leave It to Beaver" or one of those shows that tried to tell us what "family comedy" should be.

4. Verisimilitude
This is an easy one. We know about the past, but the future is just speculation.

When we see Fred in his rock car we say "yes, that's how it was in those days".

But flying cars, and robotic maids??? Come on!

5. Well, for me it had to do with the portrayal of women
And this was when I was just a little kid in the 70's and I noticed it. The idea that women in the future would be portrayed as a wife who wanted nothing more than to grab her husband's wallet and go shopping and a daughter who was a fairly brain-dead, boy-crazy bimbo really irritated me.

I've been a feminist since the day I was born.

16. How can Taming of the Shrew be so good, and the Honeymooners so not?

Plus, your argument makes no sense. The Flintstones was prehistoric, and the Honeymooners was the 1950s. Ipso fatso, the Flintstones was shot first.
